I tried to buy a property there in Goa, lost a lot of money doing so, but I pulled out and walked away. Didnt want to spend the rest of my life, or at least the next 10 + years pumping thousands more in to it and waiting and waiting and dealing with the corruption etc.

This was two years ago, I felt let down, and cheated by the country itsself. Basically what India said was F*ck off mate, we dont want you here because you are not Indian.

And that was it, I was done with the place, havnt been back since, keep planning to go back but then end up going somewhere else instead, the reverse of what I did for all those years.

I guess you still cant get India out of your system though, still reading this forum
India should be for all, us indians know how you feel, we too have experienced various obsticles in our lives when we tried to leave india for europe, USA, Australia, etc. After all seeing what is happening in Pakistan and China, i am still glad it is a democracy after all.

No I think you will find that JAMIE 11 AND the rest of us FN's feel that the Indian Government has failed us. Just remember that Tourism is the backbone of he state's economy.
Don't get me wrong, I love Goa and the people and feel that we have been let down - big time.
Arrogance you may think - but we feel totally let down.

Okay, I got it now. Sorry I didnīt comprehend the whole story first. But in your post you claim that Tourism is the backbone of the stateīs economy. Are you sure about that? The reason Iīm asking is that in the thread "Bye Bye Club Cubana" one member, shashank.aggarwal, told me Goa only makes 15% of itīs GDP from tourism. I really wonder, whoīs actually right?

The Goan newspapers say they depend on Tourism, but I believe that some of our friends, on this site, take our comments to mean the whole of India.

Re: Comments in Goa Newspaper

According to a report prepared by The Economic Development Institute of the World Bank (1998), tourism in Goa accounts for 13.7% of the state's net domestic product, 7% of employment, and 7% of state tax revenue. This is a bit dated, and the current figure is likely to be higher.

The indirect impact of tourism is likely to be greater. In the US, people used to visit California and Florida for vacation. Many fell in love with these states in the US and moved there. The internal migrants had higher rates of entrepreneurship than the natives and helped grow the economy.

One should clearly note that the laws that govern foreign ownership of land are made by the Indian government and not by state and local governments.

.
But you always need to at least double or treble the officail figures, because they must base it on the Tax paid or something like that, and we all know that most of the money from tourism there in goa isnt declared. you know what I mean, so its probably over 50% in my opinion.

anyway, going back to my original sob story, going to get a visia to visit India is too much hassle for me now, Its a shame, I still plan to go there next april, lets see if I make it. But before then, Im going to Phillapines for a trip. going to focus on Palawan, anyone been there?

Its all in percentage points...and when you say that most of money in tourism is not declared you should also consider that other industries also do the same...people involved in tourism sector are businessmen and people in other industries are also businessmen..

So it should not be difference of more than 1 OR 2 percentile up or down...

Even though I am not very strong in economics, but still these figures are based on GDP..and that is Gross...I am sure it is not calculated on tax paid or income declared ..

Mod note

This, as you all know, is a repetition of the arguments on the Goa property thread.

I suggest this conversation be continued there.
