Colva?
Hi I have heard mixed things about Colva beach....Please help! Anyone got any advise, how does the beach compare to Calangute? Some websites say its amazing, but I have also read its pretty dodgy...We are after a package type beach holiday for a few days. In terms of scenery and tourist activities? Is there a beach scene there, or is it a place littered with rubbish and stray dogs etc?....please help!.. Anyone got pix of the beach?

I didn't like it. Beach was dirty near the bus halt, the water full of jet-ski people.

Hi, I was in Colva beach in January 1998 and I remember it like a nice place...We were used to walk south about 500 metres (I think) to spend the day near this restaurant. I remember it like a quite place.

Colva is OK, pretty clean and not too many stray dogs, but we didn't like it as much as Benaulim, just a short distance to the south (3 or 4km?)
There seemed to be a friendlier feel in Benaulim although both beaches are good and have plentiful beach bars. Probably more Western tourists in Benaulim and more local tourists visiting Colva (especially at wekends) if that makes a difference to you. Benaulim is probably the better 'bikini and sunbed' resort of the two! Didn't go to Calangute but compared to Baga both are mellow and have a much more local feel than that of a package tour resort...and all the better for it in my opinion! Have fun whatever you choose. |

I've been to Colva twice: 1975 beautiful, clean quiet, nothing there but sand and water. 2001: dirty, crowded, bus fumes, only went to beach once because it was so awful. BUT it was the week of New Years Eve and it might be much better at a different time. There are still fisherman here and I've attached a pic of a fishing boat.
I'd try places others have recommended. You can always take a ride over to Colva to check it out. |

Nice silver sands
Colva is a beautiful stretch. I was there in May 2005. The Indian crowd is more but if you walk a few hundred yards its quite lonely. The sunset is glorious. I have a place in Colva ...may be I have a biased view !!!

Colve is pretty good and clean beach, you wont believe that but we visit goa every year and stay at colva around November, nice clean beach, friendly people and moreover you will get peace here...no traffic...
We stay at Colmar beach resort, a very nice beach facing property with good rates., last year we stayed in Double bed Ac room worth Rs. 550/per day. you can rent bike from the hotel at Rs. 200-250/- per day. So I suggest colva a nice place and colmar is the only place to stay (However room serice is bit okay) You can contact them on 0832-2788134 regards Kashyap

Benaulim....there is a terrific restaurant at the beach. Been there in 2000. It was quite vacant then. Had a great meal of squid and rice there. Now what is the name of that restaurant???

hi
I stayed in Colva for two weeks last year in peak season Dec 20 to Jan 5, 2004. It is pretty quiet place and slightly dirty. Beach is great and you can see sea dolphins in the morning from the beach. It makes way more sense to stay in Benaulium. The best thing to do is get down at Cova and get on the beach. Start walking towards benaulium and stay in a beach resort between these two places. There are lot of empty rooms even on New Year night, so you will get a place to stay. The south Goa beach is basically one unit almost 20km long and is very beautiful. The sea is not dicey till you keep on your feet but is not a lake either. Do NOT do water sports as there has been a series of very serious accidents.
