closest station to calengute

hey what's the closest train station to calangute when you travel on the express from mumbai. Anyone know?
and what the best way to get there...someone said the bus is cheap and interesting but after a 10 hour train trip a taxi might be nice...anyone know how far it is or how much it should cost?

Thivim is the most convenient station for Calangute.

Mumbai to Goa trains depart from Chhatrapati Sivaji Terminus (CST) or Lokmanya Tilak (LT) or Dadar (DAR)

Trains from Mumbai are at the following times:

Train 2051...Mumbai (DAR) 05:30, Thivim 12:34 Except W, (CC, II)

Train 0103...Mumbai (CST) 07:00, Thivim 17:14 (1A, 2A, 3A, SL, II,)

Train 6345...Mumbai (LT) 11:40, Thivim 21:32 (2A, 3A, SL, II,)

Train 0111...Mumbai (CST) 23:00, Thivim 09:24 (1A, 2A, 3A, SL, II,)

Thivim is about 11 - 12 Kms. from Calangute, try sharing a taxi with other tourists, you will be lucky if you can get a taxi for less than Rs150.

Thivim is indeed the closest station if you are coming by train. If you are travelling by bus then you should get down at the Mapusa bus stand. Also make sure that from Mumbai you only take the buses belonging to the Goa government owned and operated Kadamba Transport Corporation(KTC). The KTC coaches are in better physical condition and the ticket prices are fixed and there is no cheating of any kind. The private bus companies are known to indulge in all sorts of gimmicks and their buses are very rarely on time when compared to the KTC buses.

Thivim

Usually the trains stop only for 2 minutes in Thivim, so you have to be quick.
