You don't have to "renew" anything, simply leave India and return....the same day if you want, with the appropriate stamps in your passport.
So it comes down to which is the cheapest/best way to leave and re-enter India from Goa, and a travel agent is your best starting point. If you are anywhere near Anjuna, Bethany Travel are very helpful and we use them for all our arrangements.

you are so lucky, ten year tourist visa! how did you manage that?!

I think nepal overland is the cheapest and most painful option to get your exit and entry stamp. Thailand is about rs24,000 return flight and Sri Lanka about rs13,000 return flight.

The cost of getting out of India by air for your purpose is actually quite reasonable if you shop around. Its the cost of getting from Goa to an International airport that is a rip-off! I don't know what International flights are leaving Dabolim these days, but they were all pretty expensive except the Sri Lanka one that was discontinued in February (a sore subject as we were booked on it for May as part of our return trip to the UK - they treated all of us like sh*t, and we had to fight for months to get our money back).
If time and trouble are no object, the train return to Bombay is massively cheaper, a few hundred rupees.
If you want to suss out flights, I find Makemytrip.com very good, and if you know when you have to leave, get it booked well in advance as you will save a lot of money......

10 years tourist visa?
that's the first time I hear.
if visa validity 10 years why renew every 6 months?

Foreigners of Indian Origin were give PIO card at a price. and it had vality say 10-15 years. If they exceed their stay in India by 6 months then only they were required to register at FRO-Foreigner Registration Office. Now, there is something called OCI (overseas citizen of India) where he/she is given life long visa not requiring to register at FRO.

I like to know more on 10 years Tourist Visa.
Any advice much apreciated

Thanks Johnny five,

Sorry to read about your Sri Lanka flight being slashed. That must have been miserable.

It is not renewing the visa, and it is not 6 months!

Whatever the length of an Indian tourist visa, whether it is for 6 months, 1 year, 5 years or 10 years, the maximum length of any one visit to India is 180 days. After 180 days, you have to leave India.

This is what is being spoken of when people say "renewing their visa after six months"

Thanks Haylo

I see many foreigners at the FRO at Police HQ near Azad Maidan.
Instead of exiting India/Goa and then re-entry, I was wondering if they can register at FRO after 6 months of stay. Other wise this FRO is what for?
just Curious.
