Cashews in Goa?
I heard that Cashews are cheap+good quality Goa. True?
Any suggestions on good places to buy around (preferably around Varca) and also the rate? |

We bought cashews in Panjim and they were about the same price as we pay in Vancouver-just fresher!

Go to Margao. There are many places to buy cashew nuts in the market area.

The cashew shops in Panjim were charging about 150-200 Rp for half a kilo of the best quality last spring. They like to flavour them with other things, but the plain salted were my favorite. Each fruit only produces one nut which is probably why they cost so much. The fruit itself is quite tasty and is also used to make a potent alcoholic beverage called feni. Have heard that cashew production is mainly done by the women.

The cheapest and best cashews we found were at the entrance to the Sakahari Spice Farms at Ponda, huge bag for 80rs I think.
You'll see a stall just by the entrance between the car park and the farm itself which is well worth a visit in its own right, great value tour and good meal for 300rs! Cheers Malc |
