Calangute or Colva?
I am gradually getting close to sorting things out. I would, however, appreciate anyone's views on which they think is better Calangute or Colva as a place to be based in Goa.
If you could back up your suggestions with a few reasons why as well please. just one more question whilst I think of it. is there a railway station near to calangute that has connections to Mumbai? Also does anyone know anything about Villa Tivai in Calangute. I have heard it is a great place to stay and eat-- any thoughts? Cheers, Pete ![]() |

Never be in North Goa, only Benaulim and Colva. Quite places (Colva is better known among indian tourist I think).
Calangute is more famous for the "hippie" scene perhaps.Totally different. Colva is near Margao where there is a railway station , while if you chose Calangute you are quite near Panjim.

My favorite Goan beaches are Arambol in the north and Palolem in the south. From Arambol it is easy to make day trips to Calangute, Anjuna, and Vagator. If you make it as far south as Palolem you may as well continue south to Karwar and Gokarna. If you are traveling with children by all means visit the aquarium in Karwar. The Indian Coffee House in Karwar is also highly recommended.

I wouldn't say Calangute was 'Hippy Scene', more curry and chips and lager.
If you liked Colva and wanted something similair go to Candolim. I personally prefer the south but if I stay in Candalom I always take trips to Turtle beach or anywhere over the Chapora river. Cheers |

I'd opt for Benaulim, right next to Colva, it is the better option. Fantastic, endless beach. Calangute! Give it a miss:

Calangute is a fully commercial place(be ready to pay for the smiles)....mostly white tourists come there for a sunbath and feel they are not in India(even I did get that feel when I was there)
If you are looking for seeing a good mix of locals and toursits, Colva/Benaulim is the place for you...Colva is a hangout place for locals and Benaulim is peaceful and preferred by the easy-going foreigners Benaulim it is...closer to Margoa railway station and accomodation is not too costly ![]() |

Many thanks for all your advice. We will definitely be going to Colva/Benaulim area now.
All I have to do know is to try to organise something 'special' for our 25th anniversary. ![]() |
