Boat to Goa
Is there still a passenger boat from Bombay to Goa? I last rode this rust bucket in 1980, but haven't seen any mention of it on the web recently.

the boat stopped sailing when the konkan railway from mumbai to madgaon (goa) was fully opened.
as far as i know it has not sailed since. for train times to madgaon go to the following site and click on 'trains between inportant stations' http://indianrail.gov.in/

Actually, the rust bucket you mention ceased operation shortly after your travels in 1980. The boat steven refers to is the high-speed cateraman which operated for a few years before the Konkan railway made it superfluous.
The ship trip was neat; sleeping on deck, visiting with travellers you met along the way, catching the sun-rise and finally rounding Fort Aguada in the morning, pulling up the Mandovi river and docking in old colonial Panjim. ..memories ... |
