Question Bikes in Mandrem?

Hi,

My husband and I will be staying in Goa for the month of February. We're liking the sound of Mandrem-it seems beautiful and not as touristy as the other beaches.

Does anyone know if one can rent regular bikes (not scooters) there? If so, how long would it take to ride a bike to the more bustling areas of Goa (Calangute, Baga, etc.)?

Also, are taxis easy to come by in Mandrem and how much are they? We just want to make sure that we can get around and are not too far away from things.

thanks!

Ask OSaiba shop in Dunes waddo in Mandrem. In OSaiba shop ask Stanley Fernandes. He has some bikes for rent. Bajaj Advencher and Royal Enfild 350cc is possible for rent.

Wink

Mandrem to Calangute is quite a clog and takes a good 45 minutes by scooter. plus there are some pretty big hills there and back. Obviously its a confidence thing but if you can handle it - try a scooter - twist and go - take your time and have a great time.

We generaly hire a moped for our stay when we hit Mandrem, the roads are quiet until you get on the outskirts of Baga and Calangute, when it livens up a bit.

Been visting - touring India for the past 7 years and always drop back to Mandrem at the end of the tour (Where ever that takes us) we stay with Nitin and Philip at Sea Paradise and regularly nip up to Querim for that extra quiet beach time..

Beautiful

Bikes

TAKE CARE when renting bikes. It is a common habit here to rent out bikes and then send someone to steal them. The person who rents it is then forced to pay the cost of the bike, along with local goons. This is not the general trend but has happened quite often.

There arn't any 'cheap' shacks really - all about 800 - 1250 rps.. We pay a reasonable tarif because we stay for quite a few days, we have just returned after a month in india and stayed at Sea Paradise for 9 nights.

The food is exceptional but you pay a little more for it. Beer isn't very cheap (Comparitive to other parts of India) a kingfisher is around 90 rupees - Kings 45.

There are some new shacks opening up just up the road/beach which we didn't check out and may be worth a visit. You could buy beer in Mandrem Market cheaper but keeping it cool could be difficult..

have fun.

no problem - get yourself a cab up to Mandrem, have awalk along the beach and hit the huts... Dine at Sea Paradise and drink anywhere - perfect.
