Benaulim is REALLY quiet, like, there's not much there, not much to do, and nowhere to eat except in the little cafe run by the guest houses (read: bland food, high prices, slow service). For some these conditions aren't a problem, and if that describes you, then you'll love it there. It's very peaceful. It's about a 2 mile walk up to Colva Beach, where there are more services.

Benaulim
I like Benaulim coz it's quiet.
I used to spend few days there to end my winter holidays in India. I stay at L'amour beach resort and find it nice, but I have my meals on the nice huts on the beach. My favourite is Sea View, the second on the left when arriving on the beach... but also Franziska is very good a bit further away... Enjoy the quiet there... Luca |

I found the food quite good and cheap, I used to go to Raj Mahal's but also went to the first one as you turn right, can't remember the name. I met some nice people and I also stayed at L'amour for a few days, very clean very good service although a bit pricey. In the end I found a 2 bedroom flat for a ridiculously small amount of money. On the whole I liked Benaulim; although it's quiet, it's organised enough so that if you want to do a day trip or dolphin or even rent a bike to go down the beach or to Colva, you can.

Having stayed in Benaulim last November, I have to agree with other posters here, that it is a nice tranquil place. Surely the whole point of a beach resort like this is that you go there because you don't want to have something to do and just want to chill.
As to restaurants/beach huts. We found the standard to be pretty good and reasonably cheap considering it is a tourist area. We did eat one meal at the L'amour, but found the food mediocre and the service poor. They certainly are trading on their reputation and location. |

You're right; I had brekfast one morning at L'amour and I waited for hours (even by Indian standards!).

Benaulim
Stayed there last year for a week in March at the Palm Cottages, it was really nice, pricey at 800 Rupees, but for a lovely room with balcony and AC. Food was a bit bland, but that was after travelling for 2 months in India and having been at two weddings, so my expectations were high. It was nice for the peace, nobody around, but a bit to quiet. Very nice porridge with bananas on the beach in the morning. Not much to do in the evening. Went on the Spice Farm trip, which was not bad and visitied a couple of the Portugese mansions and hung out in Margao.
The main reason I sayed where I did was that they had a good website and was able to book beforehand, had wanted to go to Paololem, nut no one answered my e-mails. http://www.palmgrovegoa.com/ This is the room I had: http://www.palmgrovegoa.com/rooms.htm |

Nice room Renedu! Mine was more basic....
I went on a tour of the waterfalls and spice farm and it was great - touristy, admittedly, but very good value. Having organised the whole trip by myself, and being with my 2 daughters I fancied something organised by someone else for a change! I also went to the Anjuna market for the day with a taxi, which I shared and worked out quite reasonable. Did not like what I saw of Margao, but I bought some beautiful silk there... My breakfast was pancakes with chocolate and banana (not very Indian bet, hey what the hell, they were good) and sometimes fruit from the lady on the beach. |
