Bean Me Up in Vagator
has anyone stayed at Bean Me Up in Vagator? We're staying there in January and would love to know what other people have thought of it.

While riding my bike in north Goa I kept seeing a sign for this place everywhere! I was dying of curiosity but still couldn't find it even by following all the signs. Sorry to go off topic but just had to say it.

Me too, going offtopic.
What does it mean? Or do they mean 'Beam me up?" |

It's "Bean Me Up", and I never knew it was a hotel, I always thought it was a clever pun for a coffee shop. Or could it be both?

Here's a review of it off the lonely planet site:
http://www.lonelyplanet.com/worldgui...poi=1000082024 Its run by an American lady and is pretty cheap for the xmas period (450rp a night for a double) |

On the way to Anjuna beach you take a right just at the last junction and follow the road, you will see Cooperation Bank on the left some 600odd meters away take a right down the road there and you will come to bean me up on the right hand side. I visited them in Cct end to check but unfortunately they were shut. I have heard that the place is good to eat at. From the looks of it, it looked pretty nice n simple!

I stayed there last year during the xmas/new year period. It's a great place, and the owners do not raise prices during the peak season. The rooms are quite basic, but well maintained. Mosquito nets on all beds. There is no aircon here, but it's not really necessary during the winter months. The food is all vegetarian, with lots of soy and tofu options. It is pretty tasty, and the place is very popular as an eating destination, especially in the evenings. I think you'll have a nice time there.

You're too young!!!! - Beam me up Scottie is the phrase from Star Trek that Beam me up comes from .. They used to stand in the thingie and then dematerialise and rematerialise somewhere else and Scottie was the one who did it... I'm not a Trekkie although I did share a house with one once and it was scary!! So I don't know all the details.... ask your local geek.

We went there a few times last week for the most amazing salads and tofu. Pricey compared to the rest of India, but decent compared to the rest of the area. The owner is a TOTAL control freak ('these are the SATURDAY napkins!! THAT is ridiculous! We NEED the Wednesday napkins out!!') but the place is clean, clean, clean and the food is great. If you are a health-food junkie and travel in India for months like we have been doing, it is Heaven. Try the Green Salad...yum.
