Beach Huts in Palolem
Beach Huts in Palolem
Hi
I will be travelling to Goa in Dec and looking for a beach hut in Palolem. I am aware that the huts on Palolem are far from luxurious, however, I am trying to find the most luxurious one possible. I have read many reviews of Ciarans and Cafe del Mar and Alessandra's, not all been so flattering. A friend also recommended staying at the huts next door to the Cuba Restaurant, but she has forgotten the name of the place. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks

I would say Ciaren's is probably the pick of the bunch, but you will pay for the pleasure of staying there.
Dunno if you'll be there at New Year but I heard a rumour that the owner is planning a big bash for New Year as he's been in business for 10 years.

I have stayed in Palolem last week, lot's of huts are under renovation and not available for the time being.
Seems they are building many new ones also.
We foud it difficult to get a hut there and had to stay in a Guest house.
So, please check the availability before you start off.

I stayed at Ordo Sounsar right at the north end of the beach last year, and really rated them. The huts are very comfortable and camp's very well set up. The chill-out area and bar are fantastic, a really friendly place to stay... Sera, Shelley and LD will make you feel completely at home, and Shelley's Goan cookery in the restaurant is brilliant. Last year, huts were around 800 - 1000 INR per night depending on whether you wanted your own shower or not... Very highly recommended!!
Are the Beach huts in Palolem setup in October?
Some, but not all. Ordo Sounsar for example isn't normally finished building till mid November. Others were finished by the time I arrived on the 1st November. Don't know how many would be completed during October though? There's a couple of permanenet places to stay though, if you're definitely going to be in Palolem in October.
My partner and I would like to stay at Palolem beach in the second week of February 2009. There are so many possibilities on the beach, that we just can't decide which one is best. We have the following wish list:
- We both like to have a drink and a laugh in the evenings, and like a good party as well. We will spend one week at Anjuna for the more heavier partying, so sitting around a campfire with some music in the background will also be nice, we can always travel a bit when we want to dance
-However, when we go to sleep, we do not like to hear pounding music next to our hut, (we'll probably sleep late, so it does not need to be quiet at 11)
-We really want to have a hut on the beach, as we would like to open our doors and jump into the ocean when we wake up within a matter of seconds
-My partner likes a bit of luxury, what he finds most important is a decent bed that does not kill his back, an attached clean (!) bathroom (preferably with a hot shower, but I do not know whether hot water with a bucket is very inconvenient or that it is not really a problem), and something to keep him cool at night, however at the beach I guess A/C might not be necessary as you can open the windows and feel the sea breeze,
-We would preferably have a good restaurant nearby that serves a good (preferably local) breakfast, dinner would be great, but walking a bit to go out for dinner is not a problem.
- We do not feel like staying in an overpriced place, so we would like to pay a price that is Normal for Goan standards, 2150 rp per night per hut is our absolute max, but preferably it would be more around 1000 rp
-We would really like it to be owned by Goans
I know a lot of people have posted request for advice on huts in Palolem, but I am hoping mine is so specific that it will be easier (instead of more difficult, haha) to help out
Thanks in advance!

Yeah, Seras a great guy. I have yet to stay at Ordo but i stayed at the old Cochuts when he was there in 2001. Met up with him earlier this year and will be staying at Ordo in April next year.
Hi Vinnyt
I think have already made up my mind, and I am planning to stay at Ordo Sounsar!!
Just wondering how you experienced the beds, were they comfy and do you maybe have any picture of the interior? (I need to convince my partner that it'll be ok
)
That would be great!
Thanks in advance!

Sorry for not responding to earlier queries - only just started receiving updates to my new email address...
Red Marsy - presume it's too late to help with your trip now! Did you stay at Ordo? Or somewhere else?
Poojaamin - I didn't find there was a big problem with mossies. Certainly not noticeably worse than on the main stretch of Palolem beach...
If ya do stay at Ordo, say hi to Sera and LD for me...

Ordo was a bit disappointing
My husband and I just returned to Pune after staying at Ordo Sounsar at the North end. I would definitely check the tide charts if you plan to stay there. The moon was full and the tide came up so high, you had to wade through water to get to the bridge, and it wouldn't have been a problem if there wasn't a trash heap on the way that made the water not only waist high, but full of garbage and other things you couldn't see. Our New Years Eve was disappointing for this fact because we had to decide to come back to the huts around 11pm or wait till about 3-4am for the tide to subside if we didn't want to ruin our clothes or be drenched in garbage water.... otherwise an ok place, although they charged about 30% more than most other places along the beach which seemed a bit steep considering the walk to get there and late night accessability. The garbage heap also smelled awful during the hot days and was not pleasant to pass going back and forth from the beach. Next time we go to Palolem (and we certainly will) we'd prefer somewhere more accessible and an easier walk after a few beers at one of the bars...they're greatest redeeming factor was the friendly service and atmosphere-great for families or honeymooners.

Hello India Mike Friends,
For my friends who have already been so responsive and helpful with my previous posts, apologies for restating my story!
I am traveling to Goa in April with my 2 children (ages 8, 13)for 3-4 nights (over a weekend). I have narrowed location down to Palolem Beach.
I am looking for Beach Hut Accommodations (willing to pay for additional amenities) and have narrowed it down to Pampillon or Ciarans.
Has anyone stayed at either of these places or other places on this beach? If so, does 1 rank over the other for location, safety or family friendliness?
I have spent hours researching this and viewing what feels like thousands of hut sites! In the event you had a positive experience at a place that I have missed (taking into account the family travel) - I would be happy to hear your recommendation as well!
Many, many thanks!! Rachelle
