BAGA BEACH Calangute

Baga is a small but perfect beach located between its two more famous cousins, Colva on one side and Calangute on the other. It is a far better place to enjoy some restful moments if you don’t like the hustle and bustle of Colva or Calangute. It is a fishing beach with international tourists marinating in the sun and domestic visitors paddling. The fact is that the sand here isn’t either white or gold but brown. There is the grove of palms that comes fairly close to the water’s edge. The Baga River flows down one side of it offering a pleasant diversion for children and those who love the water but can’t risk the rip currents that swirl round the mouth. Where the river and the sea meet, and on the far right bank, there is a group of black rocks against which the sea crashes in dramatic explosions of spray.

I took a picture where the river meets the sea.

Baga is the first beach I ever saw in India, and it's still one of the most easy-going and the nicest to take a swim. You meet a different kind of traveler in Baga, backpackers sure but mostly just people who are friendly and there to relax, not pretentious or superficial or into the party scene... yes I'm generalizing a bit too much but it's very pleasant and welcoming. Plus Baga has some of the best restaurants I've ever been to in Goa for Kingfish, Tuna and chicken.

I spent a few days there last time I was in Goa (though I also stayed at three other beaches too) and found it to be the lighter side of life.
