Tomkat.I stayed in Agonda a few years back, sorry not those bungalows . It was like watching paint dry in Agonda. I never liked the beach, couldnt find any where that did nice indian food.
Some people love Agonda, some hate it. |

I'm on the 'love it' side!
I have no idea about those bungalows, and anyway things in Agonda are changing very fast so there is new accommodation all the time. It's a year since I went, so am well out of date, but would definitely recommend Agonda. Unless you are going there just after New Year, I think I'd just book one night somewhere to be sure of a place to stay and then take a look at what is available when you get there. Yes, life in Agonda is like watching paint dry, but it's very pleasant paint....and very relaxing to watch. The beach is pretty clean, water can be a bit rough at times, so more just for a dip unless you are a good swimmer. It's definitely not a party place, mainly slightly older couples. We found pretty good food and at reasonable price, especially seafood. It all comes down to what you are looking for from a stay? |

Sue J, what do you mean by "unless you're going right after new year"?
Do you mean that it will be hard to find a place if you go in the immediate lead-up to New Year's, but after that it should be fine? Or that it's easy to find a place around New Year's, but at all other times it can be hard? I'll be there the 13th or 14th of Jan. Should I book ahead? |

Tomkat says he/she will be there in Jan, but not when.
If that's 1st/2nd Jan then it'll still be busy from New Year. By the time you arrive, things should be quieter. If it was me, I'd maybe book ahead for the first night to be sure of somewhere to stay, and then look around and decide for the remainder of my stay. |

Yeah, I was trying to figure that out. I can't afford any of the places with a web presence, unfortunately. I could try to call Dunhill's. I also might spend the first night in Benaulim or Palolem, depending.
At this point my plan is to figure out where to go from Margao when I get there, based on how late it is, how tired I am, and what my transportation options are. |

Patti, we'll be there last week of Jan/early Feb. We stayed at Agonda 2 years ago and really liked it - of course it's a personal taste issue and we are "slightly elderly"
I've since heard on another forum that Chattai Bungalows at Palolem were disappointing and there are better choices to be had. ![]() A fixed price taxi from the airport is fairly reasonable and Mahnamahnas or Madhus seem best places to stay right on the beach. Cheers |
