Accommodation, Cafes and places to see

Hiya,

I will be arriving, for the first time, in Goa mid January.

Is it advisable to book a room early to make sure i have somewhere to stay? I am also really interested in getting a hut or something near a beach?

I understand Goa isn't what it once was, but i am looking to explore the state, check out some of the beaches and find some nice cafe's to hang out and relax. And find out about places to possibly avoid.

Really looking forward to visiting the area and i plan on staying there for around a month or so - this meaning cheap accommodation will be pretty essential! But it also means i get to explore the place a bit more and soak up some of the local culture and atmosphere.

Thanks in advance!

Luke

Hi Luke,

At that time of year you should easily find accomodation, but its always good to have the security of having your first few nights booked.

We stay near Anjuna, its a good, lively base for exploring north Goa. The area north of the Chapora river is (in my opinion) one of the nicest - Ashwem & Mandrem in particular, lovely long beach, plenty of beach huts and some good shacks for chilling.

There are also beach huts in the south of Goa, it has a different vibe to the norht, but plenty of people love it - do you have a preference on area?

Well after a 15 day tour, i think i want to stay somewhere rather scenic and away from the madding crowd, but i don't want to cut myself off either :P

Anjuna was one of the places i really wanted to see. So if there are some nice (cheap) places to stay around there that would be lovely, especially if they are near the beach

Mandrem looks lovely!

Thanks for the reply. As i know what date i will arrive in Goa i think i will pre book some accommodation - what are huts like to rent?

Luke

Luke I just read your other post - sounds amazing, I'm extremely jealous!!!!

There are a few recent threads discussing cheap places to stay in Anjuna (apologies if you’ve already read these):

what's anjuna like these days?
Cheap stay near the beach in Goa !!
Anjuna - New Year's -- guest houses?

I’m not sure of the rates for staying in a hut but, as I mentioned, there are plenty in Ashwem & Mandrem which is only about a 40 minute drive away, so you can easily check out the accommodation once you’re there. I think the nicest place along that stretch is http://www.yabyumresorts.com/

Good luck!

hai , couldn't resisit in asking my dear friends. I am planning a 8 days holiday with family and kids. Looking for beach, treks and water sports, which place would be ideal?north or south goa? can we rent an apartment, which could be economical? we are coming from kochi and first timers in goa. dates approx 19dec to 28dec. earlier plan was to kundapur, as i am not getting any help from members, my wife suggested to change to goa, as beach, mountains and treks seems to be available in one place. thanks for your help , earlier the better so as to find train tickets.. keep up the good work

No problem BlipBlop - glad to be of use

Libran, I can only really advise on the North and know nothing about trekking sorry! There are watersports on Baga beach, but I would really question the safety aspect, especially for children. I'm sure someone else asked a question about watersports in the area recently, try doing a search...
My main concern for you would be booking accommodation for that time of year, you will definitely need to book in advance.

Hai Blip & Little My

Thanks For Your Guidance. I Cheked Out All The Links That You Mentioned. Yabyum Very Expesnive And Not Available. I Was Particularly Looking For Guest House Or Apartment On Rental. As I Am Not Sure Of The Topography And As Suggestd By Littelmy , Yes Safety Aspect Is Taken Into Consideration, So Only Water Scooter, Boat Rides And Innocent Beach Plays For Family. So Would Need A Place Whee Hosts Would Be Helpful To Guide Us. Thanks For More Guidance
