A group tour to GOA
Well the story goes that my team is planning on a GOA tour and I am supposed to be the by default expert in handling these matters.
So here is the scenario, we need to go from Bangalore to Goa for three days. (leaving thursday and reaching back on Monday), 12 people (7 guys). Have questions on the below 1) Best mode of travel from Bangalore a- train and bikes, b- to and fro bus, c - a 16 seater bus. 2) Best beach to visit for such a short time with adequate water sports options and good hotel/resort (Rs 600-900 per night) 3) What all to do ? 4) what extra thingys I need to worry about ? I am the usual down to earth (or even underground) traveller and hence not really used to this kind of a planning. So dear IMr's help out.... Even whacky options are welcome.

Sudheer,
There is only a one advice from me. You asked for the wacky one. So here it is. Never be in the ‘lead’ role in any trip. That is, if your primary intention is to enjoy it rather than showing your leadership skills to others. Let someone else do that dirty job. Or else you’ll be running around like a mad guy. That is before the tour, during the tour and even after the tour. It is not at all a pleasant thing to lead an innovative mob. Much of the time they’ll be chasing you rather than you leading them. You’ll have to answer to them why it is taking too long to serve the food. You’ll be told that there was a better travel agent than the one you’ve selected. You’ll be told that you should have booked the other hotel where some of your members stayed last time (that place was really great and very cheap!). And they’ll never leave you peacefully to enjoy the tour. You’ll be settling the dispute with the taxi wallah while the rest scream towards the beach. (How many people are required to deal with a taxi driver?). And settling the bill at the end is not a joke. The accounts will never tally (I’m telling you!). You’ll land up in spending some extra money to fill the gap. When things turn boring people will start nagging at you (that is the one point usually everyone concur) After the tour the rest will be a happy lot and you feel relived. Me never take responsibilities in any tour party . I always love to sit at that last corner seat (you’ll see the biggest troublemakers there). And create all kinds of fun at the leading chaps. Criticism is also an art. After all a tour is to enjoy![]() Disclaimer: I was not as wicked as this before organizing tours during my college days ![]() |

LOL Beach, that's too funny - you went from leading the tours to leading the rebellions?
But you are so right. When your trip becomes a job, it's definitley not the same - so you should be compensated in some way that makes it worth your while! |
