Bangalore link is where I went, whats the latest?

I read thu the messages then posted my message on the bangalore link, but when I checked it lately the thread seems to have come back to the original one.

Hi DH

I came across this forum while looking for places to stay in Palolem as me and my partner are planning a long awaited trip to Goa (feb22-2Mar).... We live in Mumbai and the only reason we
havent had a trip since 2 years is because both of us have been busy with work.

I have read the whole forum, and it is engrossing. I was born in 1975 and frankly after checking out Goa Gils pics and also a lot of 'memories' shared on this forum, it got me all nostalgic (wishing in a way I was born in mid-50s instead).

I have been to Goa several times and enjoyed every bit of it. I have always found the people in Goa very friendly and Goa itself is for me 'the place of happy people'. The last time I went there was 2006 March and although I still enjoyed my stay there, there was a bit of disappointment as something is certainly changing. I am not sure what, but I could sense a bit of insecurity , a bit of the old 'Happy Goa' getting lost.

Anyway, what I really want to say is it is truly wonderful that you are pursuing the search for the dad you never knew. And How delightful that people from different places are writing in with their memories and suggestions, cheering you along.

Wish you all the best in your quest! The journey is important, no matter what the outcome is. A big hug!!

What keeps me coming back here every day?

This is all fascinating! I love reading everybody's experiences in India and Goa. Twenty people could vacation in India and Goa, and they could have twenty completely different vacations! India is like that old poem about the blind men and the elephant! Even visiting the exact same place, two different people have two different holidays. One person in Anjujna bemoaned the changes and was so dissapointed in the differences from the old days, that he could not enjoy himself. Another person went there and embraced the changes, found a few places that fit her preferences, her life style, and had the best vacation ever. It's not that that could only happen in India, I'm sure it could be said that Waikiki has many faces, too. But I think that India is the winner of the "Most Diversity per Square Mile" award, hands down.

OK! I know! I cameon today to ask, has anybody heard from Dad Hunter??? This is his thread, after all. We have been having our little side bar discussions whilst we are waiting for some news of "The Search for Dale". I know that a lot of us have been Private Messaging with Hadleigh. What's new??? Have all of the leads dried up? It sort of looks that way. I think that, maybe, the word has gone out to all of the folks that it could possibly get out to, It just a waiting game now. Someone will run into Dale someplace and tell him that he has a son who wants to make contact. He'll get the IndiaMike info or DH's private contact info. Ultimately I think that it will be up to Dale to make the first move once he knows about his son and his son's search.

I don't think all leads will ever dry up, there's just too many of them.

Unless the guy made some specific and complete life change, I'm sure one of those leads will find him.

And even if he did get respectable, like so many of us one-time freaks, it still is something else to completely cut off; my two best friends date from my hippy days --- one is a systems analyst, the other an accountant! And even though we don't really have contact with the bunch of people we hung around with in 1970-something, we each know somebody who would know how to contact somebody...

I somehow can't imagine you as a hippy, but I am admittedly very naive about that whole lifestyle. I mean I know it was about peace, sex and drugs (at least I think it was), but what else it entailed is lost on me.
Is there an ongoing hippy scene, anyone?

Yeow! that hurts This really makes me feel ancient!! To have about 15 years of your life put down to 3 unexamined categories--that hurts! I guess that's what happened to the beatniks of the 1950s and the "jazz era" of the 20s & 30s.

And of course, it will happen to the punks, pierced & tatooed--making them feel like dinasours by whatever comes next!!!

It's quite funny really!

I didn't get much sex, as the plentiful drugs tended to send me to sleep rather than overcome my intense shyness of the time. I suppose you could call all that sleep fairly peaceful, though.

I seem to remember some music....

Apologies are in order, it seems. Please accept them in profuse measure.

Hey, I have examined at least 2 of the categories though.

No need to apologize it's just the way it goes...it's called history! It's just really hard to discover you've become a part of history!

Apparently the "peace" part never happened , the sex part--well Nick & many of us slept through or missed because there were no rules connected with actually being hippies (it wasn't a club you joined!) and we still were who we were and generally didn't leave our brains at the door (well, maybe sometimes we did ),

and the drugs were for many of us, not the center of our lives but really just a weekend event. Many of us were young working adults. Obviously, being "a hippy" was not one thing and included people in a wide range of ages and lifestyles!

The "hippy" caricature mainly includes people dancing & stoned at Woodstock or Anjuna beach! BUT Hippies were political, non-political, vegetarian, meat-eating, commune-living, city-living, peaceful & non-violent, violent (Charles Manson was a hippie) & crazy, etc. etc. And don't want to forget rich hippies--they dressed the best

Hey, Mom? What's a hippy?

So, with all of this talk about looking for an old hippy, still in India, and with us telling some of our hippy stories and experiences, the hardest question of them all is, "What is (or was) a hippy, anyway?" We know that they started in San Francisco but didn't last there very long. The "Summer of Love" was in 1968 and after that the SF hippy scene fizzled. But a hippy scene grew in Goa and the Goa scene lasted for a good long time, like the entire decade of the 1970's, which is why there is a lot of discussion about hippies here in the IndiaMike forums (although I see lots of other cool stuff about India here). Looking back, there were so many hippies in the world that you could almost say that a hippy was "Anybody who was aged 19 to 45 at any time between 1965 and 1981".
There! That statement should spark some responses!
How's that for putting your life in a nutshell? That's 16 years of peace, sex and drugs!
BTW I didn't start out with the intention of being sarcastic. It just turned out that way.

Hey canada Paul (and Camel Girl),
I certainly didn't mean to distill a major chunk of your lives into an easy to swallow elixir.
Frankly, I kind of admire the ability of hippies to be so 'different', without being in-you-face combative. The minor peeve I have with the culture is the stereotyping of Hinduism that was born out of the Hare Rama Hare Krishna types.
