What about the links (to other websites) on this page? Are they safe to click on?

Or will that result in unwanted solicitation, albeit "authorised".

I'm sure the moderators here know best but I can confirm that most of the PMs I've gotten here were either from new members or from generally silent members. So far no indecent proposals ( ) Maybe those people are just shy about speaking in public, or don't really get the forum function, or whatever. It's something to take into account before you curb the PM options I guess.

btw If PM's are public matter to the mods then maybe put up a disclaimer to that effect with the PM function? Maybe there is one, I hadn't noticed it before.

Pm's are not public to the mods and I am the only one with access to the database where they are stored. It is extremely rare that a users pm account would be viewed by me and it would be because of complaints or an enormous amount of pm's in a short time. ....if someone sends 50 pm's in one day it's cause for an alarm.

Thanx for the clarification. I wasn't accusing you of anything, it's just that it came up on this thread.

Keep up the good work!

I remember a night (GMT) a few months ago when IM was being spammed. Suddenly I had dozens of PMs, (I guess everyone did and every thread I looked at had crap posted to it. Mike put up a "Closed for Housekeeping" sign and in the morning it was all gone. I suppose the techinique for cleaning up would be something like a 'delete where userid=spammer', which is 'accessing' mail boxes, but not exactly personally.

I suppose this must happen to every public site sometimes, and especially the nicer ones. Niceness just seems to annoy some people!

How should I (and sudheer) handle this?

And i must add, i totally agree with Nick, most of us patronise this site because its so clean and genuine. All credit to moderators for doing such a good job.
For starters, I would refrain from using real name and pics. to post on the board. I know it may not be a big problem in India, but here in U.S. chances of someone being a serial killer or sex offender or psycho is much higher.
I'd say NEVER meet up any one from a chat/forum site alone and in non-public place. Always meet up in a group of people you already know.
And, if you are a lady, do not post your pic. in the public profile. There is no scarcity of pervs in this world.
My 2 cents.

Doesn't this translate to "IM is a fatheaded smartass!"

Hey there is probably some truth there, however i don't come to your house to insult you.

If the sites not for you then don't visit it. Seriously.

No, actually they do not exactly mean what you presume. It depends a lot on the tone thats used. In the part of India (where the sentence comes from), the sentence is used frequently to describe a precocious adamant child in an adoring manner. Literal translation can come close to your interpretation but thats not correct and that was not the intention.

In any case, apologies if it has offended anyone - and I have deleted the post.

Om Shanti

Why not have a shame list, it would work for travel agents anyway. if a travel agent repeatedly sends spam, they could have their business details posted in a public list - the bad press would probably make them think twice about doing it.
