How on Earth did this get bumped up to the front (recent messages) page, when the final message is from 2007?

The mods usually bump the thread if they've received a complaint about unsolicited messages, this is for 2 reasons: -

1, the thread will let new members know that we don't tolerate this kind of thing, and advise the member of what to do if they receive these messages.

2, it sends a warning to any member thinking of sending unsolicited messages.

I did it. Ran into it and thought it may be useful for new members.

FYI -

We have received reports of members trying to "pick up" other members by contacting them through unsolicited PMs, and by attempting to setup dates with other IndiaMike members. This behaviour seems to be particularly targeted towards western women traveling alone.

I want to send a very clear message regarding such behaviour: IndiaMike.com is not a dating or pickup site, and members who are found to have joined specifically for this purpose will be banned immediately without warning.

Furthermore, unsolicited PMs or attempts to contact other members after having been told not to do so is considered harassment, and will result in an immediate ban without warning.

As always, we ask members to help keep the community safe by reporting any behaviour that violates the Terms and Conditions of the site by clicking on the link, or using the Contact Us link at the bottom of the site.

Would you mind if I mentioned the words Travel Agents here?

The moderators are pretty much in control of those advertising themselves on the forum, including those who masquerade as "happy customers" --- but if members receive any PMs offering any service or paid assistance of any kind, they should report it to the team.

I've been asked, 'should I report this sort of thing?' and the answer is absolutley! This is a commerce-free zone, but the moderating team needs the help of the other members to keep it that way.

I was looking on another forum recently and noticed a thread by a travel agent complaining that they couldn't advertise, and warning that a travel forum would become useless without travel agents, needless to say, I give my opinion in the thread.

When this does happen, women particularly seem to get targeted. Even if you're not sure, please feel free to just report it anyway - moderators really do try not to jump to conclusions about people without good evidence! But we can't do anything if nobody tells us something's happening.

methinks - nadreg's post #159 should be made into a kinda 'notice' stuck on the homepage.
a couple of hours later today - this thread will be drowned amongst the hundreds that're posted today.

just a stuck-forever 'notice' for newbies, oldbies, anybees and specifically for wannabe's.

This tread has already been marked sticky, hence gtting "drowned amongst the hundreds that're posted today" willn't happen for this one.

There's also this long-standing and very good sticky in the "Travel Partners" (sub-) forum on some of the issues involved: Women/Men looking for travel partners.

Perhaps instead of a homepage notice, it could be usefully added to the "Forum Rules"?
