Feedback for new India Images section
Thank you!

Thanks for all that hard work you have put in ! An observation from my side...if I could mention here that when there is a comment or even somebody has liked the photo, I do not get any feedback! I don't know if it is only me who is having this problem or a few more fellow IMers have faced it. It would be days before I re-check the photos and find that somebody has commented on a particular photo and I have not replied or even thanked them
! So, is it possible in anyway to get instant alert or notification? In fact, I face the same predicament even in other forums like WWTPT, etc! Sometimes I get instant notification after I have subscribed to the thread and sometimes I do not get any. Any thing I need to check or correct?
A slight problem today - I cannot post "Comments".

I'd never thought about this at all.Perhaps, if avatar, then avatar, else image ... but the grey squares not only spoil the look of the page, they also give the impression that there are no images to see.

The logic I am proposing will only be in effect in the Member Galleries section. If the user has an avatar, show the avatar. Else show the top rated image. I would not be replacing avatars across the board.
As far as notifications go, Navin, I have a follow on modification coming that will let users know when someone has commented or "liked" their posts/images/threads. This is part of the upcoming site redesign I had mentioned in the Forum Feedback area.

It's always darkest before it goes completely black.

Phew. That sounds much better. India blogs: monsoon meandering (2011) and big cats & holy ghats (2009)

Nadreg, apologies if this has already been asked and answered, but I've just been playing around with the image section for the first time, and have added a new photo. I noticed there is no option to add it to a specific gallery except my own 'members gallery' - this particular photo, for example, belongs in the 'Crossing the Border' gallery as well. Is there some way to have one photo in additional galleries?
Also, there seems to be no option to sort photos (by date, views, etc.) One way I used to find comments on my photos was to sort by 'last comment'. No such option exists now.
All in all though it's looking good, thanks for all the effort!

Yes; I've not tried this myself yet, but I suspect if you add those other galleries as tags (after posting the pic), they ought to show up there. Would be handy to know if it isn't so. (I can see this working with a one-word tag btw, but will it work if they're more words? I.e., West Bengal, Crossing The Border?)A drop-down menu to just add them to those other galleries when posting, kind of like I think it was before, might indeed be far more handy.

Indeed; Nadreg has said he soon wants to introduce a notifications system to that effect, to notify you of new comments.

I am paraphrasing from a previous post: Previously, the only albums that were allowed were the site specific albums, i.e. Members Galleries, People and Faces, Wildlife, etc. Now, the galleries are user based, and a user can have multiple galleries.
In addition to having user-based galleries, there is the ability to tag images. There are four types of tags: Category tags, State tags, City tags, and user-defined tags. If you look on the left hand side of the images section, you will see the top 10 entries shown under each tag type.
When I migrated the images from the old section to the new section, I created a default user-specific gallery for each user called "<username>'s photos", and all the images for that user were added into that gallery. In order to preserve the information associated with the old section, though, I created category tags in the new section based on the old gallery names (Wildlife, View from my Room, Member's Galleries) and assigned the images from each of those old galleries with the corresponding tags.
Once you upload an image into one of your galleries, you can add multiple tags to the image. So you can add "View From my Room" and "Crossing the Border", if both tags are applicable.

Good point. Will add to the pages with the next bundle of changes.

feedback for new India images section
Nameste, My only gripe is the images are smaller than the old format. I look at images to see the picture not all the info on the left side. A common saying here in the islands "if it isn't broken, don't fix it". Old format was just fine. Happy trails
