Uploading Photos - Two Files/Sizes Why?

I've just uploaded five photos and each one has two files of different file sizes but the same dimensions.

I checked other photos - like the photos of the month - and they only have one file.

Why? What have I done wrong?

My gallery is here if you want to have a look: http://www.indiamike.com/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser =37249

You're right, how odd.

My first thought was that perhaps the system now saves a quicker to upload or thumbnail version of each photo, but the file sizes are far too similar for that to be the reason.

It's always been this way, mine are the same going back to 2006. Not all of them, but most of them probably. See http://www.indiamike.com/photopost/s...10/ppuser/3375. Don't ask me why.

In the early days, when you clicked on the smaller (lower file size) photo, you would be able to see a larger version of the same photo.

But that stopped a long time ago, though I've no idea why.

With yours it looks like anything over 800 x 600 gets two files.
