How do I get an image into a post (not an attachment, link or thumbnail) from my home computer (My Pictures)?

I normally upload an image to 'Image Shack', then get the url, then use the url to put the image in a post via the IMG tags, but Image Shack has been playing up all day, and I just know there must be an easier way to get an image in to a post.

I've done a load of images showing the seat & berth layout in the various classes, I don't mind the weeks of research, nor the 8 hours it took to do the diagrams, but I really hate the 4 hours I've spent trying to work out how to get them into a post.

My operating system is 'Windows Vista Home Premium'.

At the moment, the diagrams are JPEG, dimensions are about 950 x 125 pixels (each), and size is about 30KB each.

I can change them to BMP, GIF, TIFF or PNG, and knowing Vista, I can probably put a cherry on top of each of them.

Any suggestions?

------------------------------------

Please ignore the following.

For all the following diagrams......

W = Western toilet.
I = Indian (squat) toilet.
__ = Door
__ = Sliding door (with lock)

STR = Store room.
C = Cupboard

First Class Air Con. (1A or 1AC)

A, B, C, D, E & F are the cabin/coupe numbers.

A, E & F are 4 berth cabins, B, C & D are 2-berth coupes.

All odd numbers are window seats during the day, and lower berths at night.

All even numbers are inside seats during the day, and upper berths at night.

Lower berths are about 200cm X 82cm, Upper berths are about 190cm X 70cm.

Luggage, there is a 30cm high space running the whole length below each lower berth, and there are ‘rings’ to attach a chain for added security.

You can request a 2-berth coupe when you buy your ticket, but you will not know if you have been given one until you arrive for your train.

When purchasing a confirmed First Class air con ticket, you will only see ‘CNF’ on your ticket, there will be no carriage or berth number, carriage and berth positions are decided when the reservation chart is prepared (a few hours before the train’s departure).

Click on photos below to see the inside of the carriage.

Attachment or link... that's it; there is no other way.

Let's come at this from a different angle... why not Attachment or link? What are trying to achieve that you can't with Attachments or links? (A thumbnail just being a sort of link)

Attachments would seem perfect for what you are trying to do, as they do not rely on any other site. Did you know that you can get them into the text, instead of the thumbnails-at-the-bottom line? It is not easy to get the layout right, but it does work.

Here you can see the difference between a typical 2AC and 3AC cat, albeit in adjacent carriages. It is no wonder that some people prefer one over the other! If you wanted the text to start under the photos, you have to add a heap of

returns, until it comes in the right place, using preview until it comes right blah blah......

I'll go for anything that gets the diagrams onto the main post, and not something that show up separately, an explanation doesn't work well if you have to click something, then look at a diagram on one page and an explanation on another.

So how do I get the diagram into a post? (The simple way, as the explanation will just be places below the diagram.)

Ahh.

I just edited my previous post, but it probably doesn't help.

With attachments, you are limited to the system-defined thumbnail size that shows in the text or at the bottom.

With links, you are not, but the mods will be unhappy if your post contains IMG links to large pics.

As the result of your labours will probably end up being an article instead of an ordinary post, you might approach Nadreg and get something together on the text and the photo layout between you.

Windows has been around a long time now, and although there are still quite a few people who seem to think it means Window, not windows, a lot of people can work around stuff like that by arranging windows on the screen.

<cross-posting>

There's a code that allows you to insert pics at designated points in your post. So allowing you to add specific descriptions and such.

The thing is, I don't know the code & Am happy to get five minutes of uninterrupted web usage at all.

So, er, over to the others. Hope you're doing well Steve; we'd have had a blast together.

<Cross-posting again: I think Nick's trying to explain it above. Can't say I'm paying too much attention; I'm on a ff'ing holiday!!>

After having done the upload in Manage Attachments, at the point in the text where you want your pic, you click on the icon and pick the one you want from the list!

I never knew. I learnt it from www.team-bhp.com, which uses the same software, and they explain it in their instructions

Enjoy the holiday, Mach

<Cross-posted> Looking promising, Steven! No longer being a mod, of course, I can't check out how you did what you did so as to be able to comment

There's only 6 diagrams at the moment, and they're not very big, so hopefully the mods will be OK with them.

The thread wouldn't be worthy of an article, I'm doing a full thread about each class, and maybe those threads would be good articles, but today I had a bit of time, and felt in the mood to do the diagrams, but looking at the one in the last post, it's not come out as well as I expected, too many doors, it looks like a Christmas cracker.

I changed the diagram to a PNG and tried image shack again, this time it worked (didn't even need the IMG tags), I don't know if image shack has had a problem today or if IMG is quicker than JPEG to load.

I'll try the way you suggest and see what happens.

Thanks for the info.

(do you ever sleep?)

I changed them all, I wasn't happy with all the 'open' doors, it looked weird, the edited diagrames don't look much better though, go back to my first post in this thread whan I asked how to put the diagrams into a post (post 31), I've edited that post to show the new diagram, and the kind of comments I want to add after each diagram.

Just a thought, the colours would be clearer if the ___ part was in in text size 6 as well as being bold.

Or maybe it's just my eyesight...

(and yes I know I'm just being picky, I know how much work has gone into it)
