Not being super computer literate (but would love to be), please explain to me in detail how I shrink my picture to your required "500 by 500 pixels or 97.7 KB". Thanks in advance!

Simple Image editor
For example, Freeware > download > install Irfanview/Picasa/ (whatever) etc. >menu > image> resize

You can also open your picture in Paint, (which comes equipped with most pcs) by right clicking the photo>open with>paint and reduce the size by clicking on image>stretch/skew then stretch horizontally and vertically by, for instance, 50 percent to reduce the photo to half the size. hope this helps

The above is basically correct. Please refer to your photo editor's help files, should be able to guide you along. The process, while often similar, differs too much between editors.
