As to date of posting, I think sometime between Feb 2005 to May 2005

I believe, but not sure... that Mala deleted her threads and it disapeared.

Could you ask old_india_hand if he remembers the dates.... coz he was a major contributor.... of the pics and aussie details.
Not enough info to go on.

I've checked all deleted threads between Jan & June 2005 (but I have to go through all threads to find them), I've checked the 'Yak, Yak, Yak', Expat, Off Topic, Health, and Only in India forums. (I tried these forums first as they are the one’s Mala used to use the most)

Unfortunately, there were a hell of a lot of threads deleted, and some of these threads ran to a few hundred replies.

My eyes can't take any more tonight; I'll try again tomorrow.

What was the subject of the thread?

Why do threads get deleted?

Is is the OP who deletes them, or the mods?

I think there's so much valuable information in even the oldest thread that I'd rather they were kept available.

In the past a member used to be able to edit (and delete) the opening post in their own thread, but a few members (and one particular member) deleted loads of threads started by themselves, this also deleted all the posts in those threads, somewhere in the region of 1000 posts were lost overnight and a lot of members were unhappy about this, so the ‘DELETE THREAD’ function was removed.

I give up, I've tried for another hour today to find the post, it will be there, but I need more info.

old_india_hand (in a recent reply) says he posted the info in 2004.

If I could just get the search down to 2 or 3 forums.........

Avidtrekker:
An example of a boolean search is:
cochin AND hotel
This will return any threads that have both "cochin" and "hotel" in them. I think you can also get more fancy, for example:
cochin AND (hotel OR guesthouse)

Yes indeed, quotes around a phrase in Google works wonders. In Indiamike it does not work. For example "hotel supreme" answers with a bunch of threads with the word "hotel" in it. That's why the Boolean search is so handy.

I just did a search for the 3 letter phrase: ATM. The site search found 0 results. The Google search found 1060 results!! I think its about time to say Goodbye to the site search, and free up some space on the toolbar!!

That's why the Google search box is right up there at the top of the front page. the useless site search used to be in a priority position.

Taking it off the menu bar is a good idea.
