I was trying to search a long thread for a couple of posts I vaguely remembered, and tried the "Search this thread" tool. It came up with no matches on the several words I typed in.

A little baffled, I tested it on words I could see in the first few posts (it was the American Presidential thread - the words I tested with included "Obama" and "Bush"). Still no matches.

What's going wrong? (my method or the search tool?!)

I think Masala Chai and Chat threads don't show in searches. Let me have a try with some other topics.

The "Search this thread" seems to work on other threads, but if it's the Billyshake presidential election thread I can't seem to find it on his "Threads I've started" list.

I think that at some point, the main Masala C&C threads (but not the subforums- eg Politics in India, News in India) stopped being searchable. Threads after a certain date don't show. I think.

Threads I've started? Why would you have Billyshake's thread on your "Threads I've Started" list? Or am I being dim?

Eh? I said I couldn't see it on his "Threads I've started" list, which is on his (Billyshake's) profile.

That'll be because Masala C&C threads aren't searchable. I think.

I don't know; I think "search this thread" doesn't work all that splendidly anyway for some reason, don't use it a lot.

I think once you're on the thread it should work whether it's in Masala or not, so that wouldn't explain it as such. Or then maybe it does, as per some comments above. (Checking on another Masala thread: yes, I guess they really are unsearchable.)

Nadreg, it's actually unhandy you can't search such threads (I was looking at something on another thread just now). Is there a way to resolve it?

I suppose Google might be a good and final resolve yes. Would be nice if the IM search engine could handle it though, and Google has its own limitations.

If, however, it is because they shouldn't be searchable at all (and other search engines will indeed find them nonetheless), then I guess that's perfectly clear and we'll just have to live with it.
