Search facilities - feedback for Indiamike

WARNING - the post below could induce extreme boredom in the average Indiamike user - read at your peril!

I was just doing some searching, in order to help answer the question about Nubra valley (RE: Trips from LEH), and noticed the following:

The Search item in the menu on the left of the screen (Main menu) does not link to the same page as the Search tab on the top of the screen.

Neither search facility returns hits for words in the photo gallery - perhaps you could get all the search engine to search both parts of the site, and return the hits in two sections (a forums section, and a photos section). And vice-versa for the search engine in the photo gallery.

I did get a hit when I searched Yahoo(UK) with the string "nubra indiamike", which returned the following single link . What this is all about is greek to me

oh - i feel like being a pain today!
How about a separate forum for volunteer opportunities. I've being searching the site for them, and am about to start a new thread, but the existing threads seem to be all over the place.

True there are two search functions, one that is basically for the forum part, which I always use and like better, and there is one for the rest of the site which also covers the forum part and searches some search engines. The latter is not that exact and I don't think I ever has used it...shame on me I know since I set it up. Some parts of the site I forget about and should check in on every now and then (like the downloads area for example).

Unfortunately with the photo gallery it's not possible at this time to integrate that search to be included with all of the other ones. Probably could be done somewhat, it would just take me some time to sit down do the logic on it. In technical terms it's a separate database that only shares the member names and permissions so it makes it very difficult. I will put it on the hit list though.

With the volunteering section, we used to have such a section many eons ago. At the time it was a dead duck but I think we only had around three hundred members or so when it breathed it's last sigh. Could be time to add it back in, it will go on the hit list also.
