Renaming the Uttaranchal forum

It may be a good idea to rename the Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal forum, now that nearly an year has passed since 1 January 2007, on which date Uttaranchal's new name `Uttarakhand' came into effect.

Excuse me if this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find any references to previous threads on the topic.

Raghu.

I should be the one saying thanks :-) Visiting the hotel listings today, I found that the same change is needed on the main page there too.

Isn't it Uttarakhand not Uttar Pradesh, Gauhati Boy? I was also confused about these 2 names but explanation re history of change is in another thread...sorry fellows just can't navigate my way to subs. would have to open another window, and makes GPRS too slow with too much opened up at same time.. nyraghu might be able to post the link!

Aishah, I guess the changing names are indeed a bit of a muddle. Here is the link to the thread you mention. Before 2000 the area in question was a part of the state of Uttar Pradesh, from 2000 to 2006 it was a state on its own called Uttaranchal, and since 1 January 2007 that state has come to be known as Uttarakhand. So, in chronological order, the names applicable to the region are Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, and Uttarakhand.

BTW, excuse me if you already know this, opening a new tab in your browser window is quicker, consumes much fewer resources than opening a new window, and does just as well.

Raghu.

Thanks, Captain. Could the same be done for the hotels listings page mentioned above?

Ah, I wondered how come the renaming came about (of the sub-forum I mean). Another mystery cleared up.
So now I want to throw another spanner in the works - doubt it'll bring results, but who knows -

UA really deserves a separate sub-forum of its own, just like HP. It's the same size (true - a little bigger actually!), just as important touristically-speaking, and as a browse thru the list of threads will testify, the bulk of the posts in the present sub-forum are about UA, not UP.
It also pains me to see my favourite state lumped together with UP (wince, wince!). It just does - apologies to Raghu and other UP-walas/residents!

Cap'n, will request u to use your good offices to push this thru. I know a lot of threads will have to be culled, but this shudn't be too difficult to achieve. If desired, I can do a run-thru after the initial culling to see if any threads have been missed.

You are right Dilliwalla - I have never approached Uttarkhand through the Forum way, only through threads posted and hadn't realized it was a Sub-Forum of UP. Which of course it shouldn't be! Should be with the States.

Dilliwala, I quite agree with you and Aishah that a separate subforum of `States in India' for Uttarakhand would be good.

No offence :-)

And, Captain, do you think you could look in again at that hotels listing page as well?

I think the seperation issue (UP and Uttarakhand) is with Nadreg already. I guess when he comes to it..

Nevertheless, am reminding him now and directing him to this thread.
