p.s. apologies, I've now taken it about as off topic as this thread can possibly get

GoHome, have a look at this thread from yesterday where I mentioned Australian adapters:

Thanks everyone for the help with adaptors. I have taken this thread off topic, but now know what to do - buy in Mumbai on arrival.

Again thanks for all the support I have received planning our trip. As a suggestion perhaps a good 'how to search' sticky may be helpful to the new comers.

Cheers

I read somewhere that Mouse stood for Macintosh Open User System Enhancement. Probably a hoax, but it sure had me convinced! Also considering that tech-geeks enjoy coming up with similar names/terms when "simpler" ones wud do.

Didn't take u long to track it down either, did it?
Anyway, this time I'm not guilty - this discussion is about acronyms, not tech.

Off-topic came about from my asking the meaning of initials in Janice's post - actually the off-topic has been quite interesting and I wouldn't mind knowing what MOUSE really stands for? Is Dilliwalla correct? Sorry, Janice to stray a little from the original purpose of post but I am learning new things all the time reading this thread!

No, it seems it was a hoax. Had me going for a few years!

If we didn't go off-topic, I wud not have learnt either that mouse is not an acronym.
So there bb, that certainly justifies my going OT, heheh.

Dilliwalla - initials again! bb - is this 'beautiful blonde'??
I do know OT, off-topic, but I am really dumb about some of the abbreviations used. From your answer, does this mean a mouse is a mouse because it looks like one?? And not an acronym?? Sorry to be so dense! Oh - don't worry about this question, I have just re-read the top of this thread, now I know!

I'm a newbie...
i've been reading and reading and reading...
i understand that it might be offensive/annoying to you oldies to have to re-read the stuff...
but honestly... when i'm attracted to a thread for information, it quickly falls through with lots of jokes (yes this has already been stated here) and stuff i'm not really involved with yet.. and i want the answer to just ONE question that seems elusive... but still..
i keep reading and reading and reading... so i do not open another maleria thread
but forgive me if (and when) i do repeat stuff you have already said...
thank you for being helpful and thanks for keeping the site active and thought provoking

Take a look at the ID of poster #50.

He and I have this thing going about tech discussions, which are always in the "wrong" thread, i.e. off-topic.
I have no idea whether he is beautiful, blond or both. He only describes himself as a blue monkey. Actually he's a large flightless bird like yourself, u may be pleased to know.

Dilli - nice try, but a discussion about tech acronyms is still a tech discussion

Aishah - I've been called many things, but never blonde and certainly not beautiful! You now have free tech support for life

Patheya - I think you can safely assume that if you've done the research and still can't find the answers - its ok to ask questions that might have been asked before. I think the original post by Janice was more aimed at those who don't research the threads at all, don't read what is current in the forums, and end up repeating questions that are immediately accessible within the site (I've done this at times as well). If you've read the threads and still have questions - by all means ask.

There have been posts in this thread by a number of seasoned veterans (I'm not one of them - I'm talking about personalities that have been contributing for years) that have all reiterated that IM is a lot less strict than other forums, and probably prefers to be a bit more lenient when dealing with enquiries. I think that's great - its one of the things I find most attractive about IM. And yes - sometimes it can go a bit off topic - but more often than not that's interesting too.

So don't feel restricted - and no need to apologies. As long as you are considerate (which clearly you are) - that's fine.

happy posting!
