But yours didn't. That's curious!
EDIT: I got the Duplicate post error on this one, but it seems to be here once only

No.
You can't post in the beginners forum, or start a new thread in the meetups one. Otherwise, if you can post here, you can start a new thread anywhere.

Yes, there is a reason.
We maintain the Beginners' Forum as a collection of useful threads for easy reference. You can post within any of those threads, but you cannot start a new thread in the forum. We're not trying to prevent beginners posting in any of the other forums, eg health, visas, transport, but you'll notice a lot of duplication and stuff. If you can't find what you are specifically looking for, then please go ahead and post in one of those forums, either in an ongoing relevant thread or in a new thread of your own. |

ohh ok *blush* well i posted my thread in chai chat (i think it's called), please feel free to merge/move/remove it.
I completely understand, my search for treks didn't turn up what i was looking for and i wasn't sure if it was polite here to chat within someone elses thread. thanks for the explanation, it's much appreciated ![]() |

Yes, you get about two days or so, then it disappears.
It was introduced to stop people from deleting their entire history and thereby defacing the site, rendering threads unintelligible. If people have a serious reason after that period to edit or remove their posts, they should contact the moderators or preferably the admin. Remember as a thread grows, it's not just your original post that's at stake anymore, people will have put their time and effort into responding, and it will by then serve a wider and possible future public.

I understand Mach, makes sense.
Actually, I'm a member in another (and much more casual) forum and it happened there. We were all so sick of the lady who was doing that and the Mods finally reported her to the "upper committee" after warning her quite a few times. She's still participating but not deleting anymore. Anyway, the reason I asked was I wanted to give an update on my visa question since I was panicking so much. I guess I could do "reply" and one of you can merge it into my other message... ![]() |

Yes (I can't btw, am not currently a mod). But you can always add something to an existing thread of yours, then send a mod a friendly message to have it merged or replaced or so. Or the other way around (ask them first). Be sure to send them a bunch of (at least virtual) flowers to go with it, they're busy busy people with plenty of nonsense flying about
