Hm, yes, must be that air of authority, cough. A little more seriously, I was until recently, so I can see how that image would persist for a while.

The moderators are listed at the right bottom of the main page; a little above that, you can check which users are online, so if you need one of them in a hurry, you could contact a mod who is online at that time. Their names show up as underlined. (There will of course be times when none of them is around.)

(And let me repeat for the benefit of all that abuse of this is unlikely to be looked favorably upon. The mods are usually busy enough with background stuff, although they will of course address sensible queries [and always in their own good time], that's what they're there for.)

Exclamation please help me remove my post

Hi indiamike,

Please help me remove my post about recommended books on various gurus/deities that was so lame nobody responded to. I have since found useful books and my own interests have grown beyond needing anyone's advice. (thank god...or who and whatever!!)

can't find anywhere that says edit your post, even though no one has replied to the thread. only offers to post a reply.

thank you!

However this has been a double edge sword for us and if a thread is deleted by the original poster all the subsequent threads are gone and anyone who replied to it has lost any information they have submitted.

The new changes are as follows-

If you are the starter of a discussion or new topic you will no longer be able to delete the entire discussion. You may however edit the contents of your original post but deleting the entire discussion will no longer be allowed.

If you start a discussion and people start replying to it then it stays. You may delete your parts out of it but the original topic will stay.

If the discussion was made in error please use the 'report post' function or 'contact us' with help editing the thread.

Replies to a discussion in progress still may be deleted and will we try to respect your choice to be able to delete them if you so choose so.

These are the following guidelines with threads and editing them-

Users may edit their own posts.

Users may delete their own posts.

Users may not delete their own threads if they are the creator of the discussion, however they may edit the contents of it.

Time Limit on Editing of Thread Title - 90 Seconds

I hope that everyone understands this and why I am implementing it and is mainly because many people spend a lot of time and energy replying to a discussion and to have it deleted because the original creator of the discussion decided to do it is just unfair and stinks.

If you need assistance in editing threads and do not have permission to do so please contact us and we will be more than willing to assist you.

Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike,

I posted a new question on an old thread (Khajurahu to Varanasi). I believe members thought that was an old question and therefore I haven't recevied any replies yet . May I cut and copy the new question and post it on a new thread? Is there a way to do that?

thanks

flying pig - which Forum did you post this in? Let us know and we can bump your question. Don't cut and paste into another forum yet - this will make multiple posts of the same question and not permitted.

Aishah,

I posted the question under the forum of Madhya Pradesh with the title "from Agra to Khajurahu?". My posted question is no longer there, I think someone deleted it. But I can still find the question in my profile. What do I need to do in order to create a new thread and transfer the new question to it so members will know it's a new post.

thank you.

This is gonna sound twice as critical as it's meant to be, but if your question went unanswered it may be people have just overseen it or not bothered, and you misspelled it and it's a very common question, so you could just search for earlier answers, using the right keywords, of course.

On that thread people did nonetheless take the time to answer you. You can just revive it by adding a new query there, which will bring it back to top of the forum. This is called "bumping" and will be looked unfavorably upon if it's done for no good reason (not just here, but anywhere on web forums. It's part of what is called "Netiquette.")

My posted question was moved to the thread "India travel itinerary advice". Not sure who did it. Anyways, I have found similar questions posted years ago. I think I have a pretty good idea what to do now.

thank you.

Yes, flyingpig, one of the Mods did this for you, and I think now best we leave it as it is. Good you have found answers in the meanwhile.
