I just saw that my thread has been moved to some private forum. Well, its okay with me that lot of us unruly denizens with questionable credentials do not get to post there.

But, what's the harm in permitting us to read the threads? Reading opinions of more experienced members on cross-cultural issues?

Because 'Google' and other search engines would also be able to read the posts.

One of the main reasons for the 'off topic' forum is to prevent people from joining just to join in today's argument/discussion.

There are thousands of people who just 'google' a word then join forums to argue that topic, absolutely no interest in that forum, they just want an argument.

We don't want people looking for an argument about partition, or Dalit rights or other controversial subjects joining indiamike.com

This is a travel forum, but we do accept that our members have a wider interest in India, so we have the ‘off topic’ forum.

But don’t worry, you’re not missing much.

Well it was my second post of the day..

"THE HOLY COW" thread in 'It happens only in India.

My posts no longer appear...I first thought it was some software glitch and I went back and hit 'reply' once again..but then the forum software announced that I had already posted that article and it was a repeat post.

I then posted on 2 other topics ... viz a SIM card topic and some other and they didn't appear as well.

Just click on the forums link on the main page (it is on the left hand side). Choose the appropriate forum (that's important) and then click on the new thread button (in a red box at the top of the list of threads in that forum).

I was told in uncertain terms before this is a TRAVEL forum. Accept that, but a lot of the 'geek speak' chat to me has nothing to to with India travel

fsg, go to 'forums', the offtopic area is 3rd from the top, I think.

But given that you seem to want to strictly stick to travel threads, are you sure you want to go there?

hi fsg,

the "geek speak" forum is a hefty nod to the fact that many, if not most, travelers these days want to stay connected via the internet or cell phone. the forum is a place to ask questions and post about everything from laptop connections and internet cafes, to SIM cards and mobile phone rates. geeks being geeks, they really cannot help themselves from making forays into all sorts of loosely related geek topics.

as is the case in all forums and even in individual threads, things can run off-topic. we try to be judicious in identifying what belongs where, but we are also, to some extent, a self-moderating site. thus, the posting rules and our requests, for example, that members try to choose the best forum for a topic, post a thread only once, and try to stick to the original thread topic. humans being the creative and comic species that they are, that doesn't always happen. but deviations and minor transgressions also sometimes add to the fun of this site and are part of why it's such a special community. we make every effort to be uniform and consistent, but we, too, are just human members and, hence, fallible.

whether it's in geek speak, off-topic, or elsewhere, i hope you can always find a place for your closely or less-closely related india travel questions and answers, and that you'll continue to use, enjoy and contribute to the site. i personally especially appreciated your posts in the sikkim forum relating to photos. good to have you here!

You misunderstood my gist.
As I spend quite a lot of my time in India, per annum, have been travelling there for more , many,many, more,than a few years.

I like to think I have an empathy with the country

I read the papers there and find some subjects confusing........ No that is not anything to do with politics, Naxalites, etc. I skim that and read on.

Caste, or is that now community.

The conservative Tambrams.

The laid back Culcattta folk.

The smart Delhi set.

They all set my mind a 'thinking.

Recently however we have started to travel in 2AC on the trains.

Everyone seems to put up their curtains, and there is no interaction.

I think we will travel 3AC next much a chattier lot, and inquisitive, they learn from us and we them

Thats what travel is all about........... respect other people

Just remembered which thread I got a bit peeved that was deleted.

It was reference to IPOs and Red Herrings.. Well in UK a Red Herrings is misleading information. Yet all Indian IPOs have that in the Prospectus.

As usual there are the mega posters with trite replies, none of whom really understood the question in the first place . the last one said
."This a TRAVEL forum. Why ask such stupid questions here?"
