Curious thing is that post, and the other one (in the Delhi thread) that contains the same words, is invisible to everything except the Google site search.

Looks like no sleep for Nadreg for a few nights yet...

(Don't give up!)

Search for: Big Fat Indian Bloke in the Red Shirt

no results, with quotes but its the first link on the google search.

Without quotes .. well its somewhere I am sure but its not on the first 4 pages then I got tired of hunting

Am I doing something wrong here?
Isn't the easy search in a search engine the one that is unique? Something detailed and not found on many pages?

But it seems to be able to cope with "Indian bloke".

My test string was also only two words.

I guess the tests need to be more demanding, like yours.

Nikhil, try your searches again.

Previously, I had capped the total number of posts that a thread would be indexed with. So for huge threads, like the Delhi thread, only the first couple of hundred posts were indexed. I've changed that now.

Ok has found something to throw at it.

a) Goto a random post. In this case looking for great restaurants in Jaipur, Delhi, Agra
Post #2

Copy past everything into the search and then delete all the silly words and leave Jaipur January Nero's Dosas Rogan Josh Lassiwala No quotes...

Search and boom its the first and only result. Thats odd?? So I reduce some words and edit and stuff and suddenly lots of results .. Ok now why was there just 1 searched post earlier?

Edit a bit more..

Now with Jaipur January Nero's Dosas Rogan Josh Lassiwala

On the new search engine I am getting 12,540 results with the specific post nowhere on the top page

BUT BUT

In the google search

its the first result and only result??

Pushed the word by word search a bit

Jaipur has 11400 posts
Jaipur January has 1330
Jaipur January Nero's 1 Result
Jaipur January Rogan Josh 1 Result
Jaipur Rogan Josh 2 Results ..

Is getting lost now.. considering I am not using " " I assumed that Google would throw up a lot more but it gets to the specific post really fast even if its misleading.

cos Where can I eat Rogan Josh in
Jaipur gives me just two results. even in google.

but on the new search
Where can I eat Rogan Josh in Jaipur
Gives me 307801 results ..

But at first glance none seems quite right

What did you edit? Did you change the checkbox on the Advanced Search feature at all?

Ahhh now that explains it.

Without enable Advanced Search Features and Without Quotes it pops up just the two(now) results

But with the enable Advanced Search Features and Without Quotes it pops up a kazillion.

My bad.. must have checked the advanced somewhere in the middle.

I will put together a write up on what the advanced search does for you. It can get pretty confusing with the advanced search turned on.
