Link up profiles & galleries?

I thought there was a general forum feedback thread somewhere that I might post this to, but I don't find it.

In any case, it struck me that if I'm not mistaken there is no swift way to go from a user's profile to their picture galleries; nor from their galleries to their profile and posts (to see if they wrote anything on the subject, for instance). You'd currently need to search for them switching between either. Is it an idea to have the two linked up?

Mach is right, this could be easier. There is a "Profile" link in the photo gallery header, but it takes you to your own Public Profile rather than the profile of the member who took the photo, if that link remains, the name could be usefully changed to "My Profile".

To access someone's User Gallery from their Public Profile

1. Click on one of their photos at the bottom of their public profile
2. Click on users gallery to bottom left of photo details box

That is a bit cumbersome, prominent "View This Member's Gallery" and "View this Member's Public Profile" links would be an improvement.

To access someone's Public Profile from a picture in their User Gallery

This is confusing because there are currently two "Profile" Pages, the "Public Profile" from forum posts and the "Member Profile" from the photo gallery.

Oddly, it doesn't seem possible to access the Public Profile at all from the member gallery, though it looks as if it doesn't work because there is currently a broken link. How it looks as if it should work is by doing the following:

1. Click on a member's name to the left of their photo details box, that takes you to their "Member Profile" page
2. Click on "Profile" to go to the "Public Profile" - however this doesn't work. Instead of linking to the public profile, it links only to the "Member Profile" page that you're already on, which presumably is an error as nobody would deliberately provide a link to a page you're already viewing.

Can the information on the "Member Profile" be incorporated into the "Public Profile", and links provided to the new and more comprehensive "User Profile"? Is it necessary to have these two separate profile pages?

I remember Mike saying that the forum and the Photo Gallery were completely seperate and run on a different kind of software, and they couldn't easily be linked together.

However, you know be by now, and I have no idea about software and compatibility issues, so you'll have to wait for Nadreg to reply, and he may look into the problem and search for a solution before he replies.

It is frustrating though, there must be 50 or more times I've wanted to go to a person's profile after viewing their photos, and a direct link (both ways) will be most useful to the mods.

Great info Haylo.

Not really related, but....have you noticed that the Gmail pages don't have a link to Google's homepage? this has always confused me, Google are normally always on top of their game.

It can be done.

1. Go to photo. Just using an example from today - click on Swapnil's Buddha Statue.

2. Click on the photo gallery of the user. (Underneath Swapnil's avatar: "users gallery".)

3. Click on SWAPNIL to enter his gallery.

4. Click on Statistics.

5. At the bottom of THAT page, you'll see "Click here to see user's forum profile".

6. Clicking that link in #5 will take you straight to the Profile page of Swapnil.

Yes, I have used that route from photo to forum profile quite a few times. When moderating, the question, "Who is this guy[ess]?" often occured.

But a link on the forum profile to the photo member gallery --- that would be brilliant! Good idea!

That's correct yes, the thought had occurred to me after writing my question. I think they're really two separate platforms yes.

So let's see what Nadreg has to say on it, if it's technically unfeasible, then there's nothing to do about it of course.

Thanks for other input above too. A couple of those routes I was unaware of; in any case, a smoother solution might be that much more elegant.

Jumpt from members photos to members profile

Just a suggestion
I was just watching "grukuls" photos under members galleries and i really liked them. His picture was of his bike with KL (kerela) license plate shot in ladakh / leh.
I now wanted to read about his journey from kerela to ladakh however there was no link to quickly jump to his profile.

There should be a link there to jump to that memebers profile instantly, rather than search in the members list and then see the posts made.

Again, just a suggestion.

Yes; I'd asked about it before, too: Link up profiles & galleries? Maybe the two threads can be merged, or the other closed or something.

It'd be handy if it worked the other way around as well, btw; not least for the mods, too, I'm sure.

There is a link to his profile if you click on the photo. Doesn't look like he has posted anything on his trip, though.

No; you can click on a member's name there, but it just takes you to their photo galleries stats page (their "profile" in terms of the galleries). Not to their posts, or their actual user profile.

This is because the two are really two separate software platforms I think; it gets touched on in that other thread I linked to just above. (It being so may also make it hard to link up the two; that is for Nadreg to look into. It has been explained to me in the past that it would in fact be hard.)

On the left of that page ís the choice 'statistics'. This gives you another page on which their is a link to the actual user profile.
