IndiaMike.com Feedback Request

As part of putting together a development plan for IndiaMike.com, I'm going to be doing some research over the next few weeks on features that people like or don't like, and new features that people would find useful. Part of this is doing a competitive analysis of some of the other websites and features people use, and seeing how IndiaMike.com compares against them.

In the interests of keeping this focused, I'm going to be asking specific questions over the next few weeks. It would be extremely useful if you guys could give some thought to these questions, and pitch in with your answers. Although I have my own ideas of what works and what doesn't work, getting feedback from the community directly is invaluable.

So, watch out for the questions over the next few days.

Searching within one's own subscribed threads list would be useful.

oh, yeah, second that. so very frustrating, too, to get that "string you entered" message. and i can never read those trippy anti-spam letters and numbers. i don't question their necessity, but does hitting the right set of characters have to be quite so elusive?

also, this may have been addressed in another administrative thread, but even after i visit a subscribed thread, the number of unread posts remains unchanged unless i post a new message myself.

thanks for soliciting input on these things, nad. i've been away from the site for awhile, and see that you've already made a lot of nice changes.

hotels

I have no idea how or if it would be possible, but I would really like to see hotel information consolidated somehow.

It seems that generally people don't use the actual Hotel tool but rather just post threads about relevant hotels. So the information seems a bit spread out.

I would also like to 2nd my frustration at the "elusive characters" for searchs. It sometimes takes me 4 or 5 times and I am young with 20/20 vision. What about the older folks?

A good work around is to use google advanced to search the board from outside. I get better results as well. My eyesight, well they chose to shrink everything once I turned 40..

I don't like it how when you click on your name on the top right corner and it keeps showing the threads you subscribed to even though you might not care about them any more, after a few visits. Before it was just after one visit and on the second visit they'd be gone, unless someone replied it it between your 1st and 2nd visit.

If you're logged on as a member, you shouldn't need (nor be asked) to input that string though. It's only for guests (and it is a bit of a pain to read on any site yes. It does help against bots of course. One can always try again if it didn't work on a first try. Copy your search string first so you don't need to enter it again each time.)

Or at least that's how it works for me; it would be interesting (and strange) if it doesn't for some others.

I probably won't be around much to give any feedback soon, Nadreg -- but good luck with it

Google maps page for the hotels.
Google maps page for the threads, based a 'town' tag that could be entered.

A 'New Threads' option to add to 'New Posts' and 'Todays Posts'

In the list of posts, next to the originators name, put in the date it the thread created. I keep reading the same old posts just because someone has a comment and not realised the thread was way old.

In the My Threads bit, which I like, I would like to be notified when someone quotes me. That way when I'm done with the thread I can unsubscribe but get back involved with it if someone quotes my article.

You can unsubscribe from threads through your profile or through the subscribed threads link in "Quick Links" (I nearly typo'd that as "Quick Kinks".

Mine is a similar point though- I really like the "My Threads" feature which shows up on the right when you click on "Forums". I use that to follow conversations rather than subscribe to threads. However, it will show threads I'm no longer interested in, that I posted in once, 256 posts ago. Is there anyway to get rid of them?

Or is this the same question, NSWm, and I've just misunderstood?
