Indiamike.com (Beta) Community Section now Available

The Indiamike.com Community Section is dedicated to promoting India travel, and to helping educate and prepare new travelers for their journey across India. The section is a collection of articles and books compiled through threads and posts submitted by our members. The community also introduces user blogs as another way for our members to express their travel stories.

The new Community Section gives a more structured presentation of the threads on indiamike.com.

Some of the articles we will be building out over the next few weeks include:

1. Best time to travel to India
2. Safety in India, i.e is it safe traveling in India? Is it safe traveling alone as a female?
3. Popular destinations in India, basically a snapshot of the popular destinations indiamike.com users go to.
4. Health & Wellbeing: innoculations, antimalarials et
5. Visa questions and answers. Do I need a visa to visit India? How long can I stay for?
6. Travel in India: Should I travel by train? How do I book a ticket?

We are going to also add the Indiamike Train Guide as a Book on this site.

For now, the section is in Beta testing, meaning we're working the kinks of the design and presentation. The articles will be added over the next week or so. But feel free to check it out, and start your own user blogs, if you want to.

It looks very nice.

Might even have a go at starting a blog!

I wonder if it will it will co-exist with the existing forum. I guess that is something that the users (us!) will decide!

Can we have a link to it in the menu bar, or the Quick Links drop-down?

Bug? report

have a look at the Articles Page.

It gives the heading to the article I submitted, followed by a box, which divides my heading from its text and includes all the other articles.

Funny box.

Couldit be anything to do with the fact that there is a box in my article?

Fixed... Yes, it had to do with the table. The problem was that it was trying to split the article into a "teaser" for the homepage, which was cutting the table in half.

There are now three sections to IM.

Remains to be seen which becomes the most popular...

Whilst I'm a bit of a stick-in-the-mud traditionalist, I'd say that IM, IMers and the information as well as the social aspect that we have here will continue into the future. It's presentation may change...

Think of it as more ways for members to express themselves. So...

1. Blogs as a personal journal (if people like it, I'll be moving the existing journals over).
2. Articles as a way for members to help educate new travelers. Articles should be written by an "authority", so we will be careful about what gets published. The community would read the articles and be able to comment on inaccuracies, etc.
3. Threads/Posts as a way of asking questions and having discussions.

So, I think the three will live quite comfortably together. If people like the Community and add content, I will integrate it into the homepage. So, you'll be able to see new journals/blog entries, articles, as well as posts on the homepage.

you are probably right, and like bigzero says, there are interesting possibilities.

good change is good.

Change for the sake of change is just a wast of time and energy.

Of course, there are times when we don't know if a particular change will be a good one or bad one until afterwards...
