acomoddation queston????!!!

It would also be nice if people used upper and lower case appropriately, and had a go at spelling correctly!

Another pet hate of mine is the use of acronyms. There are so many replies on IM asking "What is a HMPIW?", or similar.

I shouldn't moan - IM is great!

<& dives into the bomb shelter>
1] Lower case d at the beginning of a sentence.

2] sayIndiamike should be two words.

3] No full stop (period) at the end of the sentence.

4] See me after class!

I think we are again seeing a crop of bad thread titles and postings in unrelated forums.

Can we do something about it? Like move threads to appropriate forums (is it at all possible?) or mods editing the titles of threads?

I probibly move about 10 threads a day and change the title of about 5 threads a day, however....

Time is limited, and I only notice a percentage of the mistakes.

It's the thread starter who loses out.

Just to add....

The use of the words Urgent or Emergency in thread titles should only be used if absolutely appropriate.

There have been a few times when members have been in need if immediate help and our other members have been wonderful and helpful with their replies, but if finding the word Urgent in a thread title normally leads to a question about a hotel for next month, these 'urgent' threads may no longer get the attention that could need.

Can the ability to edit thread titles be given to Original thread starting member? Atleast to senior members with 100+ posts so that, based on the tone the thread is taking, the members can change the Title to make it more appropriate.

i've recommended on one occassion that the op retitle her post, and it got the attention that she needed. so, maybe rather than members editting others, it would be best to recommend it to the oringinal poster.

with re to spelling, upper and lower case, i really do not see an issue with that. i notice that spelling errors may happen when english is not a first language with some members, so who can fault that, especially for those of us who are unilingual...

I don't think so, in the past a member used to be able to edit the opening post in their own thread, but a few members (and one particular member) deleted loads of threads started by themselves, this also deleted all the posts in those threads, somewhere in the region of 1000 posts were lost overnight and a lot of members were unhappy about this, so the ‘EDIT THREAD’ function was removed.

OK, I just done a test and yes a member can edit their own thread title, but only just after they submit the thread (for the next 30 or 60 minutes I think).

After submitting a thread, they can go to the thread, click on Edit (in opening post), then click on 'Go Advanced', then edit the thread title, then click on 'save changes'.

I'm not sure if this the best place to post this or if indeed it has been covered before - elsewhere - but when I attempt to search with any words shorter than 4 letters - the search engine will ignore the request. Not really a big problem but it becomes quite evident with important key words like "Taj" , "dal", "cat, "asp" etc. and it may only take a small software tweak to fix the problem!

I think Mike said, 3 letter words tend to eat a lot of CPU. or something to that effect. I presume Mike's setup is not akin to Google.
