UPDATED INFORMATION

To add an image under your username that appears on the forum visit the Edit Avatar link in your control panel and follow the instructions. You may use one of our stock avatars or upload an image from another website or from your computer.

Please remember that if you choose an image from out stock avatars that another person may have the same image also.

Forum Tips:
-------------------------------

I always get asked "how do I get one those little pictures under my name" or also know as an avatar.

There are two ways-
One if you are logged in just go to this url http://www.indiamike.com/india/member.php?s=&action=editavata r select one from the giant list of avatars there.

Or two-
Click on the Control Panel link at the top of the page, then select edit options and scroll down to the bottom and click where is says "change Avatar".

There are a ton of images I loaded up for this so go for it and use them.

Mike

Wow good selection, haven't looked over there in a while. I've kinda admired IVAN and MT's avatars but wasn't excited about the 'plain vanilla' old alternatives so haven't been using one. will try one out

what your avatar says about you...

New users might like to consult this article first before they choose an avatar:

narcissistic - themes of power, status, perfection, grandiosity; draws for admiration and praise; feelings of being "special" and "privileged"

schizoid - themes of interpersonal detachment and indifference, perhaps combined with evidence of abstract or intellectual thinking; little evidence of warmth and tenderness; the "loner" themes

paranoid - distrust, isolation, hypervigilance, blaming or finding fault with others; cold, humorless, argumentative characteristics

depressive - gloom, darkness, loss, low self-esteeem

manic - energtic, grandiose, impulsive

masochistic - self-destructive, themes revolving around the "bad self" or "woe is me

obsessive/compulsive - serious, formal; themes of control and perfection; shows evidence of a concern about details and rules"

I have just chosen an avatar. How do i know that nobody else is using it? Would the program tell me if it was already in use? I can't recall having seen it on the board. I've just read the article in Midnite Toker's post above and found out that stealing another person's avatar is a serious business.

Avatars can be used my multiple people unless you upload an individual one for yourself (there are tons all over the net), though I don't think anyone else is using "Dark Side of the Moon".

In the next site update, if I remember, I will try to make it so that Avatars are only used by one person.

Talking Lets See...

So Toker, you are histrionic, I would be schizoid, Mike is definitely narcissistic, m2 is psychopathic and Allan, I'm sorry to say, is an obsessive/compulsive.

What a bunch of sickos on this forum!

Don't worry about it, Ivan!

Seems like a pretty normal sample of humanity to me.

Oooh, do you think so, Ivan? I'd always seen myself as in the "ideosyncratic/creative" box.
I'm sure the big blue globe in your avatar represents yourself. We hangers-on just orbit your influence - clearly a power/authority trip. Did you ever dabble in politics?

You're probably right about our all being sickos over here. Yet where else can we turn when all our friends and colleagues have seen the slide shows six times before and heard about the two-day train ride in the monsoon twice already?

Smile So Narcissistic AND Schizoid then?

Like they say "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" which could lead us to interesting interpretations of your interpretation of my avatar...
And don't worry you can be histrionic AND ideosyncratic/creative too, no need to limit yourself to one.

Quoting IVAN,

..and -M2- is psychopathic...

while not denying that this might well be true, I thought the avatar might represent someone perhaps disembarking from a 30hr unreserved train journey, giving a shakey 'thumbs up' to the experience.

tanpopo...

As far as your avatar goes, there are a number of interpretations. Those favouring the syncretic analysis might say you are sometimes unprepared (caught on the hop), while the deconstructive synergists would probably suggest that you find yourself occasionally without answers (not a leg to stand on).

Me? Well, I think it's simply an avatar chosen by someone who likes to eat pizza off their flatbed scanner.

If I just stole this image from today's Lonely Planet home page then what category would I be in? And can LP do anyhing about it?

(Friday - Not this image - this is one of mine. But it might be different again tomorrow.)

(And then I obviously did)

Mmm, I should charge a fee for this, shouldn't I?

I liked your previous avatar as well, maree. Your new one shows you as fresh and vibrant but likely to droop in an overheated room.
Creative recycling, I'd call it... I won't breathe a word to LP.

Keen avatar-spotters should check out Colin's creatively-recycled image.
