How to Delete Posts?

This may sound like a dumb question, but can and how does one delete a posted reply to a thread?

For the life of me I can't see anything in my post edit options that would allow me to do this. And searching this forum, I haven't found any pointers.

I simply wanted to delete the post I made here to move to a more appropriate thread.

I don't think of myself as being challenged tech-wise, but wonder if it has something to do with Firefox on Mac OS, and certain editing options not being available?

Thanks in advance,

Tak

Click on the EDIT button. You'll see a Delete button at the bottom of the Edit Window

However, you are not permitted to delete a post that is the opening post of a thread. Doing so deletes the entire thread and this can only be done by a moderator.

So you couldn't delete this thread, but you can delete a post made on an existing thread.

If anyone wants to delete a first-post-on-a-thread, PM a moderator. If other members have already put in time answering that post, we will not delete it, as that is not fair on them. Usually, though, there is no reason why not and we will.

Duplicate threads we tidy up routinely, it can happen that comms issues or system glitches cause someone to think something didn't post when it did --- so they press the button again.

We also clean up after people that actually think it is a good idea to ask the same question in multiple places, because that is against forum rules.

Thank you for the clarifications.

Though I don't want to sound like a dummy, but it looks like the bottom of my edit window doesn't have a delete button.

My feeling is that it has something to do with the forum software and Mac OS/Firefox. However, when I hover over the "Edit" button I see a little highlight that reads "Edit/Delete Message"

Am I just blind?

If you tried it on post number one in this thread then my comments above apply: opening post of a thread.

Try it on the post No 3 you just did.

(But I'm off to bed now...)

Yup below is all that it shows.

So I wonder if this is a common problem for all Mac users then, what about Linux users?

In any case, I checked it on a Mac OS 10.4.8 running Firefox/1.5.0.10 and also on Safari 2.0.4

Anyone here know how to debug PHP code?

yes, but if you click on "go advanced", then a window pops up that has "delete this message" above your post that you want to edit.

or doesn't it work for you that way?

No, don't see it. I tried to allow pop-ups, and a few of my options for editing posts in my User CP. Still no dice.

Still think that this is a bug in VBulletin. Wonder if any other Mac users are encountering this problem?

I just tried as an ordinary member... no delete option in the edit window, or the Advanced Edit screen.

It's a problem.

I think I too have faced it before when I tried to delete a reply, but then I just gave up and moved on.

Maybe it's a good thing. Forces me to be really mindful before I hit 'Post' !

Anyways, uh we Mac users are more enlightened right?

btw: I searched over in the VBulletin user forums for ver. 3.5, both the "Bugtracking" and "Troubleshooting" sections but didn't really find any similar bugs.

Thank You, Problem Fixed

Just wanted thank the person who fixed the delete bug. Happily discovered today that I now have a delete button, which I happily made use of!
