If you post the link, a moderator will be able to see what happens if they click on it

Hint: right click on the link, select 'Copy Link Location', then
you can Control-V paste it into a post here.

Exactly like that

I think that may be an old link; A year or so ago, at some upgrade or another, the URLS started to look human-readable, ie you can see the title of the thread in the string.

That might be why it doesn't work. I think only Nadreg could say if that's the case.

I doubt it.

If you post the paragraph in which you saw the link, or a link to the page even, someone might recognise the topic.

Just go to "New Posts", top right. It's sorted by date and time.

It has just been removed, feel free to contribute to this thread which is discussing its removal.

Meanwhile, you can access new threads by clicking "Quick Links" and picking it from the drop down menu.

Post wiped out by an error page?

(This is a FireFox hint)

You've just spent twenty minutes writing a wonderfully informative (or combative, even, in Masal Chai and Chat!) post. You click submit and... a few seconds later a whole page comes up telling you, for instance,
Quote:
The Server at www.IndiaMike.com is taking too long to respond....

You pray, and hit the Back button. Nothing. Your post is gone.

Apart from the good habit of, during a long post, at least copying your work to the clipboard (control-A control-C), you can make lost posts much less frequent by telling Firefox not to show you that stupid error page.

Get the Firefox Addin called Configuration Mania. Run it, from Tools on the main menu, and, on the first tab (Browser), expand the last item (Others) and tick

Annoy error dialogue message, not display error-pages

The result of this rather bad and confusing piece of English is that Firefox will now put those messages in a pop-up box, not a whole page with an explanation you didn't want to read anyway.

You can cancel the box, and you have not lost the work on the current page.

It changed my life for the better !

(there is probably a single key in "about:config" to achieve this, but I don't know what it is, and Configuration Mania is a safe[er] way of messing with such things.

What a great looking piece of kit, thanks for that. It has all sorts of interesting bells and whistles, even odd things like minimum tab sizes. PLUS, it has that all-important "reset" button.

Anyway, I've followed your instructions, but now I have a major problem. My internet is fine, IndiaMike is whizzing along nicely - so how do I know that it works?

I almost want something to break now, so I can try it!

Oh the irony, if this post disappears into the aether...

1. start typing a comment.

2. type some rubbish into the address bar and press return

3. You'll just see a nice little box saying that Firefox can't finder the server at rubbish.

4. Cancel the box. Your comment is still there

---If it worked

Really? That's the sort of thing Microsoft does.

I've never had Firefox do that. Must be some configuration!

<a few minutes later>

Configuration Mania ->first tab ->first item (Smart Browsing) ->Disable "Enable Internet Keywords"

Who wants the address bar to act as google input, when there is a search window about, errr, 5mm away!
