Google chrome, letter to agony aunt.

Dear Abby,

I am a non techie, so please be gentle.

Just started using google chrome. Indiamike seems to work fine, except when I click on 'quick links',

a) no drop down appears
b) the entire screen scrolls down a couple of inches.

This means I can't use the 'mark all forums read' link that I use often, and would like to. The other thing I use ie 'new posts', is available under my username so I can use that there, and 'today's posts' too

So, Abby,

a) Is this something I can fix?
b) Is there another way to mark 'all forums read'
c) Do you think he loves me?

Great humour as usual Capt.

A couple of days ago I was going to start a thread on exactly the same topic, but thought it easier to just stop using Google Chrome.

Please note that Chome is still in Beta Phase. There is an option to Report issues on a particular page. Request you to use the link and report issue to google.

There is a "Mark all forums read" link at the bottom of the main Forums page.

EDITED TO ADD: I know it works, because I just clicked on the link to see what the options were, and now all my forums are marked read.

Well I'm often called Aunty, but I'm not Aunt Abby, and I haven't a clue even what Google Chrome is, and after reading your post Captain, don't think I even want to know about it. Sorry can't help you there - and all I know about Forums and threads I have read, not read is that there are red and blue markers beside them and if there's a new thread I haven't read the marker will be red.
However, for the next few months I have all my pics and little coloured symbols turned off, so I haven't a clue which I've read and which I haven't at the moment! It's not bothering me, I am having a nice holiday instead - sorry I am absolutely no help for you!

Haylo, thanks. That worked.

However, the fact that the other options under quick links are not available to me- and the fact that I have minor problems with another site I regularly visit, means that I am out of chrome- till it is rechromed at least.

psst: Aishah, chrome is another browser, like internet explorer. My kids have ridiculed me for too long for using that- they are selling Opera.

And nope, it isn't Pavarotti.

Just to be awkward, I'll put a vote in for Mozilla Firefox instead, I recently upgraded to 3.0.3 and so far it seems totally glitch free.

(You should be on 3.0.10 --- most of the upgrades are security related, Rubber Sucker)

Rubber Sucker..... there's no need to call Haylo names.

It may be 3.0.11 as Nick posted 25 minutes ago.

I think Google Chrome sux, but that wasn't the question (suggest putting as little into Google's eager hands as you can though).

I know there is a safety feature that is in fact good to enable (at least for Windows users, and since last time I read about it [arguably some months ago] they never fixed this, even though they've been aware of it for quite some time), which is to -- in Internet Explorer -- disable "active scripting." It's a very minor risk, but is potentially open to abuse.

Anyway disabling it will stop such drop-down menus (at least on IndiaMike) from working. You could set it to be prompted about it, however it gets called for every time (or several times?) you open a page here, will drive you nuts.

In any case what you describe sounds just the same, so seems like Google Chrome might disable this for you. I know no way around it but to leave it enabled (so possibly getting rid of GC then in your case, if you can't customize it).

Haha, one rubber sucker born every minute! If only upgrades were that easy... I'm running Linpus Linux Lite on my netbook, it beats XP hands down - less than 20 seconds from hitting the on switch from being online.

Unfortunately I don't really know what I'm doing with Linux and unlike windows, uploading new software to Linpus Linux seems insanely complicated, so I got the 3.1.3 upgrade and Skype as shell script uploads from the Acer site.

Thanks for clarification, Captain! I wrote a reply post in the middle of a huge electrical storm last night, was sure it appeared on the thread just below Haylo's Post #8 and then I logged out altogether, in case lightning came down the line to my computer and then we had power cuts for a while.

What with chrome, opera, rubber sucker, I'm out of here - this thread is too weird for words!
