Seems like a good idea.

Nadreg is busy for a few days, but I have left a note for him.

Hmmm... Maybe?

But, apart from trekking... visiting India doesn't really require much gear, does it?

I don't think we need a 'review' forum as such. People's comments on the stuff they buy, whether it is a pair of flip-flops for a few Indian Rs, or a high-tech boot for many US $$$$ gets onto the site anyway. I don't think many of our members are going to take the trouble to review xxx boot or yyy backpack. We have a hotel review section which is sadly underused.

There is also the demon with which us mods battle every day...

There will always be a guy[ess] who has just joined the site, and who posts

I just wanted to tell you about these wonderful boots I bought at nnn shop in Delhi. The staff there are really helpful and they are selling only goods of highest quality. These boots have been making my entire trip to India a great experience
That's right: the advertisers .

Err, I thought you already had trouble with the 'demons' Nick?

Would't that be giving them some more ideas?

Oh dear, at it again

And now I remember my last embarassing typo: it was typing porn instead of pawn.

Looks like there's a disturbing pattern here. I'd better get onto that analyst!

What kind of gear? Travel, Trekking, mossie, water purification, Computer &/or Digital Camera gear? Not sure if this site has the necessary volume to draw enough unbiased, subjective views on such a broad range of unique products/brands .... to make it worth while. When members have a really good experience with a product they, more often than not, will sqawk about it or at least recommend it to enquiring minds.

But seriously what triggered all this is the fact that i worked the entire year and saved up for a half decent backpack and tent. Turns out that despite the dough i cant get any decent manufacturer gear,
either its substandard - sold by folks who cant tell their elbow from a camel's A@@@ or some folks asking for twice the dough for the stuff because they think that anyone who goes out trekking has to have gold lined pockets in this part of the world.
Anyway i guess this is not the post, moderators can take this off if they wish, just blowing off steam
sorry folks

No problem... all suggestions received. The person best known for blowing off the mouth is one of the moderators (check the post count ).

There's certainly discussion of gear here, and you're welcome to join in, of course.

I've never been trekking (or even camping, much) but I've bought some heavy-weather gear in my time, and noticed the phenomena that if its for sailing that doubles the price, if its for skiing then that triples it! Mine was for sailing.
