Firefox has an extension called Hit-a-Hint which I often find convenient. After installing it, with the default settings, pressing the space bar while viewing a Web page causes all the links in the page to be labelled with numbers; typing a number and releasing the space bar takes one to the corresponding URL. It enables mouse-free navigation without the difficulties of long TAB sequences.

Wise words those, but, unfortunately, rarely heeded. This in spite of the fact that on the developer side, there are useful resources like the Any Browser Campaign, while at the user end sites like Browse Happy do their bit to promote the use of standards-compliant browsers, and caution against using IE. Hopefully this will be my last question here-

What's the earth.google...matt... thing on the home page? It shows up elsewhere too - it seems to take up a lot of screen space...

No idea Hfot. Is it a Google ad? I block them & so don't see them.

Google Earth is here and Matt disappeared somewhere here (A little more seriously: Those ads get randomly generated, albeit vaguely by page content. Site admins don't control it.)

i seem to recall there being a "search thread" option under "thread tools". or was it somewhere else? if so, where, and is it still there? i used it often--very handy.

The 'search this thread' is the button right next to thread tools, and on its right.

Have we given up on the Journals? They don't seem to be accessed via the top tool bar anymore?

You are right, it was a Google ad and now it's gone, replaced by something else. I can't believe I was duped into clicking on it - I am usually so aware of these things - it just looked like a nifty film clip you guys were giving us for our edification. Guess that was Google's intention...

Do these large blocks of ads have to be in such a prominent position on the home page - upper right corner? Could they be at the bottom of the page?

They're featured more prominently on the Community Page now.

What happened to the Members list? If it's still here, I can't find it. The other day I wanted to find a post by a certain member (any post) because his signature had a link to a website that I wanted to use. I had to keep searching through various threads till I found one - he doesn't post constantly, but fortunately he posts often enough that it didn't take me all that long before I stumbled on one - but what a pain.

The Who's Online box on the main pages has a link to the "Complete Member List" on it. I think that's what you're looking for.

I don't see a link to the complete list. ???

As for the shoutbox, I preferred it right on the first page, but if it has to be on the Community page, I think it should be at the top and the Latest Journals (which hardly change, it seems) should be at the bottom.

Click onto the Home Page and do a text search for "Complete Member List". You should be able to find it then on the homepage. Let me know if you're still having trouble.

As for the Shoutbox, I'm a little nervous about putting it on the homepage. But your suggestion on moving it up on the community page is a good one. I'll mock it up and see what it looks like.

If you use Firefox you may want to install the extension Adblock Plus to avoid looking at these ads. OTOH, http://browsehappy.com/ is for people who use the Microsoft Internet Explorer.
