Sure. I know. It's what I do. Others might not think of it.
When we get to this sort of stuff, it becomes not a case of what Indiamike.com can do, but of what vBulletin can do! It's pretty good. If it was uncomfortable to use I would have passed it by! In some very small ways it is better than another busy vBulletin site I subscribe to: Team-Bhp.com.

U have this habit of not quoting posts in your replies, or not copying the relevant text into your replies which often has me confused, espesh when your reply comes after many intermediate posts or is on a different page even. It then becomes an art trying to decipher who u are addressing. I guess the older members are used to this and can figure it out easily, certainly the newer members must have a hard time sometimes. Or is it just me ? Quite possible , I never was the brightest bulb in the chandelier.Re vBulletin - it's clear as mud that all functions and functionality are software dependent and nadreg can't do magic. Which is why I wondered if some kind of add-on were possible. It never hurts to ask. If u don't ask, u don't get. I do hope he gets around to reading my post though, I'd be interested in his response. Also to my post re the faulty default (no pun) time in brownboy's thread. He must be very busy. |

True. (that if you don't ask...)
I know (that you're not a ludite) It's what I do (the notepad thing...) Yes, it was a bit cryptic, but I thought you'd follow. And the time thing works fine for me, I think, and we're both in the same time zone. |

The time zone works for u but that's becos u're never logged out from IM, as u said at #145. Same if I don't log out. For instance, your post above was at 2.02 am, right? I mean that actually was the time of day as well. Right, now log out and check the time of post. It will say 3.02 am. If u read brownboy's a.m. thread again, u'll see a post from Anders acknowledging the same. Right now IM's default time (when not logged in) is Myanmar Standard Time. |

![]() Right! Now I see what you mean. I'd say it must be a bug, or something wrong with the default site timezone. Nadreg? Did you remember to uncheck DST when you changed the site's time zone to IST? But wait... it's the end of October, wouldn't we be out of most countries' DST by now? But when I use the site, I log in, so its behaviour when I am not logged in doesn't bother me. Do you find it useful to use to the site not logged in? You must do so, or I guess you'd never have noticed this error. I don't know if it bothers our many hundreds of Guest browsers --- and they can't post to tell us! |

Maybe... I don't know how good the software is at detecting the humans. It certainly knows that a lot of the spiders are spiders, and lists them as such (I think even non-mods can see this in the who's Online function in the Quick Links menu?) --- but my hunch is that many or most of the 'guest' users are humans, varying from one-off google specific-subject redirects, to those who regularly browse the site but have never had the desire to register.

Guest Browser
I'm one of the "many hundreds of Guest browsers". Organizational considerations such as forum categories, time zones etc. are irrelevant to me. The mods and administrator (and the occasional enthusiastic new member) care about such things but I don't. All I usually want to do is read the latest posts.

Members 24 others 260 Others were: - Guests 162 Yahoo 93 Google 4 MSM 1 It's a very low number for Google, so either Google isn't finding the site or many of the 'guests' are google bots. The 'Unique users' and 'average time on site' and 'total page views' figures are really impressive, but I somehow doubt Nadreg want's to put those figures on a public forum. I noticed the following yesteday... Photo views = 9,755,322 Hotel Listing's views = 769,587

EDIT: Of course, for those of us that step out of home and use public computers sometimes, it's NOT a good idea to remain signed in at IM, or any other site FTM. But u wudn't know that, wud u? Of course this (discrepancy) doesn't cause me to lose any sleep. But sometimes I like to know when someone posted a particular msg (even my own sometimes), that's when I check the time. In the old days when IM was on U.S. time, I usually signed in first anyway, becos I cudn't be bothered to bend my brain around figuring out the time diff to IST. So it's only recently anyway that I discovered by chance that IM had changed default time, becos the time diff to my personal setting (IST) was only 1 hour now instead of over 9 hours. I only read various posts/threads like this one subsequently. However, since they didn't make sense to me based on personal experience, I decided to check some more, it cud have been that I was missing something (u know, as I said: chandelier--bulb--brightest, not) and it's only since a few days that I'm convinced that all the posts about default time being IST are not correct. The issue is not whether it's a problem for me (if it had been, I wud have brought it up 3 weeks ago) or whether it's relevant/useful/important/whatever - I'm simply pointing out a discrepancy I've noticed, not the first member to do so, and I doubt the last. (Frankly, I'm only doing it becos I'm angling for a free t-shirt . Though I doubt I'll get one, I didn't the last time around either). We are told that IM's default time is IST. It is not - it's MyanmarST, and that shud be clear, that's all. |
