Check thread date

Is this the right forum?

I have noticed that lots of posters post requests on threads which are out of date, and also the information contained is likewise out of date.

A quick glance at the OP might save some frustration in those expecting up to date responses.

It's a good point.

Sometimes, though, it results in an old but good thread being rejuvenated.

Good point. Never thought of it that way.

I think posters often try to be polite and find an existing thread rather than start a new one.

I think its funny though, when you see someone posting an answer to someone else's travel question, which was originally asked three years ago!

That is what occurred to me today when someone mentioned travelling in Kerala in the spring, and another poster asked if the OP was still there...long gone I suspect if only on a 180 day visa.

SitaParityaga My new avatar is a bit more glitzy, but really the old one meant a lot to me. Its not often you manage without manipulation to get a pic of Amavasi[ new moon] and a 'festival' gopuram at dusk. Not an easy pic to read as a small image.

Not long till I go back........ again, lost count o the number of times.

people want to contribute, let them contribute

Maybe someone else will have a benefit of it. And at least the poster had a momentary good feeling of having done something meaningful.

Well, many people have similar questions, so if the new information is up to date, then it's useable.

I prefer resurrecting old threads to having new ones scroll off in 90 days... an alternative means of forum management.

I guess it depends... I think Fsg was reacting to some calls today to meet up, on threads where it was indeed unlikely those people were in India still. A quick glance at previous post dates can't hurt on such occasions.

I think this is one of those case-by-case common-sense issues.

Look at the date is good advice: it is shame when someone puts in effort to give an answer to a long out-dated question, although yes, sometimes it might be use to another reader.

There are those who join the site with an agenda, it might be personal, political or even a disguised advert. These people dig up everyt thread they can find on their chosen subject and, err, leave their deposit on it. The mods tend to regard that as spam, but, as with so many things, it isn't always clear cut.
