Cant send 'quick repliy'

Dumb 'n' Dumber

So wots the secret? I have logged in. I go to the forum, go to Calcutta and write my 'HElPFUL REPLY' which takes perhaps 15 mins, I then click 'quick reply' and BINGO! it tells me I'm not permitted to reply go and Refresh. and login. When I refresh I have LOST all my work! I am already Logged in! so Why am I being asked to Log In Again?

Unfortunately, this happens sometimes. Not too often, thankfully.

Going to 'go advanced' works most of the time as an alternative, the text of your reply is not lost.

The only other thing which one can do is to select and copy your reply before posting just in case

When you log in, tick Remember Me.

I'm pretty sure this is the key to preventing this happening, as it never happens to me at home, but has, a few times, away from home.

It is, indeed, bloody annoying!

On an allied subject (in case Nadreg drops by this thread), I find that Post Quick Reply is regular either slow or hangs, like it used to on the old server.

If something similar happens again, DO NOT click on 'Refresh'!! Always on 'Cancel', that way u won't lose your message.

You get logged out after a while unless u ticked 'Remember me'.
But even then that's not a problem - if u click 'Post Reply' or a similar tab, all it will do is ask u to log in again, doing which will display your typed page or preview just as if u were permanently logged in.

Reply is safer than Quick Reply.

I find, in Firefox, that I can 'go back' to a reply page, and usually my text is still there, whereas with Quick Reply it is always gone. Other browsers may well vary.

This is particularly important if you get a timeout because of connection trouble, or a glitch at the server end. With the full, advanced reply screen there is a chance (at least in Firefox) that back-arrow recovers your typing. Not so for Quick reply.

No doubt. Easily achieved though by clicking 'Go Advanced' below the QR asap, which will then give the same status as 'Preview'.

Oooh, risky that - IE works the same way, but I've sometimes had half-written msgs disappear becos they weren't cached properly when the connection went.

(sent with Quick Reply )
