I hope

have been trying for several days now to upload a couple of photos. I've done it before, so I know (mostly what I'm doing. The upload page even says the photo has been uploaded . . . but when I look for it, it's not there. Ideas?

Same for me. I can do one photo, but only one at a time. And sometimes it doesn't upload.

I think you have to compress the pics first on your PC. With a programm I have not figgured out either totally yet.
If you have them in small format, then you can upload them.

But there are way smarter folks online who can tell us I think.??????????

wonderonomic - as far as I understand it, the site tells me that the file size to download is unlimited, in the past I believe I've just chosen a photo from my computer and the resizing was done "in-house" . . . I know I have to resize images to include as a thumbnail in a message . . . ? . . . just a "not-dot-com-er" tryin' to figure it out

Nothing more than a guess but is the file size >2Mb (or thereabouts) ?

Images which are too large will show as being uploaded but won't make it through.

Cheers

Mod Note: Darmabum - I've moved your Thread into Forum Help and Announcements, you hardly need to 'Introduce' yourself where it was before!

I'm not an expert on the uploading photos here, because I barely do any - is it for the Photos Gallery or as an attachment when you Go Advanced for a post. I hope someone more knowledgeable might be able to help you. I have found a couple of times I had to re-size my photos first before they could be uploaded because they were too large. This is for the post where you have to do thumbnails only, or else post a link. I don't know anything re the Photos Gallery however.

zoltan, Aishah - Thank you. zoltan, I think that is exactly what is happening, the site says the upload was completed, but it wasn't . . . funny though, that uploading fullsize/oversize images has worked in the past in the photo forum without resizing. I'll try tomorrow by resizing first, see what happens. And Aishah, yes, it is for the photo gallery, not for a thumbnail in a post (which I know needs resizing).

The best (easiest) software I've found for resizing is irfanview.exe

It's available from download.com and is free of any fees.

You can "save" images and they will be automatically resized to a % of the original image (ie. if you have a 4Mb file and save it as another name (to keep the original), you can set the size as 50% of the original and it will drop it down without any /much noticeable loss of clarity.

Cheers
Zoltan

Thank you zoltan - I'm a MacMan, and what I do is Export my photo, where it asks me what size I want, then I scale it down (length and width) until I find the numbers that take me to 100kb. While the IM site tells me that file size is unlimited, the photo I'm attempting to upload is a reproduction quality scan of a 35mm slide, big file. We'll try again today. Thanks for your help/suggestions.

I think scaling with and lenght will not make the actual Kb lesser.???
I have not figgured it out either.
Photo needs compressing to get smaller in kb?

Wonderonomic - simply scaling down the image size seems to work for me. Again, I use a Mac, and while in iPhoto, I simply reset the image size after choosing the photo and "Export"ing it.

My surprise when I tried to upload the photo I've been asking about is that at one time I did/could simply upload the full image - as is - and it went through. I'll get this computer-stuff yet!

What I do

is go into the Forums (highlighted in burgundy/top of home page) find the forum that best represents what I want to say/want to know. Go into that Forum and at the top of the page of posts for that Forum there is a Start a New Thread button. Click it. Start talkin'
