Hi All:

I guess this is a very stupid question.

What does passport endorsement mean? Is it meant to extend the validity or say adding a feature like addition/modification of address/spouse name etc?

Also, what is meant by a kid's passport endorsement?

Any light specific from Indian aspect will be great.

Kindly note that me, my wife and my kid all are Indian nationals.
Did you wear the other person's shoe today?

Dunno, but 'getting a child endorsed on a parent's passport' is one similar usage. It means just that- the child (usually an infant or pretty young) is endorsed on the mother's (usually) passport and can travel on it. We did it once or twice many years ago, but rules may have changed now.

Captain - That was fast!!

My wife got her passport before her marriage with ECR stamp, as she was unaware of the ECNR/ECR concept.

After marriage, the following changes are needed:

1. Her address has to be changed
2. Spouse name should be added in the passport
3. As she is an AMIE in Electronics and holds IT PAN, and I hold ECNR passport as well, she is eligible for ECNR.

I have downloaded form # 2 for this. But I am confused about the charge.

Will the service charge be Rs. 1000/- for all of the above, or will be 1300/- (Rs. 1000/- for item 1 & 2 and additional Rs. 300/- for ECNR stamping/ECR stamp deletion)?

I would probably call RPO Kolkata anyway, but if any of IMers know it, then I can call them with a little more confidence

Thanks all!

Finally took out time to make the call to RPO. After quite a few diallings (it's a busy line), I could reach the official on the other end. Found him pretty helpful actually!

He said for all the above changes the charge would be Rs. 1000/- (not 1300/-). Form # 2 is the right form and you need to add documentary proof:

A. Spouse name addition - Provide marriage registration document copy
B. ECNR - Provide Graduation/Higher Secondary (+2) level certificate/marksheet
C. Address Change - Provide Bank Passbook in the applicants name showing the address clearly. Bank statement would not do. One may provide other regular documents like telephone bill, Electricity bill etc. My wife doesn't have any of these in her name, so bank passbook is the only option.

Let's try!
