Hi,

I have got a query with respect to change of spelling of my first name in passport.

My First Name : Qutubuddin

In Passport, this has come as : Qutbuddin, the 'u' being dropped out.

I need to apply for Work permit in UK. Please can anyone let me know the procedure to correct this and the time this will take as I need to get this done as soon as possible. Also if only making an affidavit for the same will do or not?

Thanks in advance

You need to check this out the kolkata passport office. It should be a simple matter. THey may require an affidavit, unless it is a clerical error.

And they may have information on this online.

You should go to the passport office and ask them to change it.

What else?

(Actually there is an alternative: many travels companies have agents that deal with passports and visas. For a small fee they can advise on the forms to be filled and save you much of the queueing and frustration of dealing with the matter yourself)

Not using text-speak would be a very good start.

You'd think this might certainly come in handy when applying for a work permit in the UK yes.

Thing is, I recently saw a formal communication by an Indian embassy written in exactly such language...

Aaargh "Cud u plz" etc, u no da dil (--> you know the deal, for all you linguistically impaired).

Unless it is a clerical error, any change in name will attract full fees.If your birth certificte/school leaving certificate depicts your desired name it is O.K. otherwise you will have to submit affidabit, copy of published advertisement alongwith application form.

I am having same problem . My Fathers name is misspelled as "Arachand" instead of "Tarachand " , now I want to apply for U.S Visa , and before it gets corrected , I guess I will not be able to do that.
I approached Passport Office , they said they will correct in 15 days and they sent my passport without correcting it in 2 days. Please let us know what needs to be done

MY surname is NAVEENKUMAR, but in my passport, it is given with space as Naveen Kumar. should I apply for correction? Im going to apply for Dependency VISA where as my husband's passport given name is NAVEENKUMAR.

Its NOT REQUIRED that your surname should match that of your husband. It is not even neccessary that your surname change. So if a SPACE doesn't matter much, let it be, else go for a change.

Thanks for ur reply.

Will it make any trouble in getting dependency VISA?
If correction is to be done, what is the procedure? should I apply for re-issue of passport? It is my mistake, I filled the form incorrectly.

1. It won't make any difference.
2. Check http://www.indiamike.com/india/india...apply-t175750/ and then follow the official websites "Document required" link
