My family application went in end of Sept and was only acknowledged early Nov. One poster said that due to the new rules of renouncing Indian citizenship before OCI/PIO applications (and the 90 fee) his application was returned. Has this happened to anyone else.

Are they acknowledging applications and then asking for the renouncing to be completed before considering the applications. any help will be appreciated.

How did you apply? Did you send by post or went to High Commission?

Have you checked your status online? Have you renounced Indian citizenship?

there is no such thing as postal receipt for an OCI application. everything is done on the webpage. I have done this before for myself in July 2009 and was successful (it took only 2 months and my experiences are detailed in another thread). This is application for the rest of the family and it is taking about 4 months, with the complication of renounciation of passport (although i have not ehard anything else about this)

Family applications tend to take longer than an individual's application.

Yes recd today.

Docs recd at London: 25 january 2010
Passports recd at London special delivery: 27 January 2010
Passports recd home with OCI card: 13 Feb 2010

Now for the intersting part. I did not submit a surrender certificate. I had a previously expired Indian passport as proof of indian citizenship. When i submitted application online (early september) the surrender rule had not been implemented. When they got my whole application package on 30 Sept 2009, it was on the cusp of the new rules. I did nothing....expecting them to ask me for teh surrender certificate. they did not. It was granted and when it came to stamping passports i thought they may ask for it then. They have not. So i am lucky. I got through without paying 90 for the surrender certificate. I know for a fact having checked other applicants status that there were regection notes asking for surrender certificate. Could it be that as i had only an expired indian passport and was on the cusp of the new rules, they did not bother?? I think so

Anyways there ends the saga of our family OCI. My wife did hers in July 2009 and the whole process was completed in 8 weeks. For me and the kids from Sept 2009 it took 18 weeks. All procedures done entirely by post.

It works fine though and no complaints.

I want to submit an oci application for my children , can you please list me what docs I should sumbmit for this application. It is really pity that 90 is being charged to cancel the passport. And no one picks the phone calls or write reply to emails in OCI cell of HCI.
