I need one from India for my Visa application. Can I just list the hotel I might stay at? I got one chance to make this work, if they send it back "incomplete" im screwed.

Anyone care to be my reference
Or know of a good reference I can write down?
I dont know how serious they take references, so I want to be safe.

Aloha everyone

Yes, you can list hotels, business contacts, etc. Some people have had no problem with no contacts listed, but when I filed for mine, they told me I needed them. I ended up putting that I knew Vikram Sharma in Delhi and Samir Patel from Gurgaon. It worked for me.

I have always left them blank with the assumption that if your a tourist you probably do not have any references.

Never had any issues with it left blank.

Unless your going for business purposes, leave the India references requests blank. I go mainly for business but the last time I went as a tourist so I asked them and they said it's not necessary for a tourist to complete.

I just got my visa yesterday (after some typical confusion, they don't take quarters) and I didn't put anything down for a reference.

The best thing about the visa office was the three different line-ups. The person sitting in the "enquiries" line would say "no enquiries now, only visa pick-up". It reminded me of being in the bank in India where you would get a chit with a number on it. The number didn't correspond to anything, and when you went to the area to get your money, they just looked around and pointed at who they wanted to serve next. You handed in your chit and your paperwork and they gave you the money. All this after being called into the manager's office to tell him what you thought of his country. The whole visa thing is a good reminder of how things are going to be and to relax, bring a book, and it will all get done...eventually.
