Hi folks.

When downloading the relevant visa application forms, I came across forms to complete to apply for a "liquor permit for foreigh tourists".

Does anyone know about this ? Under what circumstances will such a permit be required ?

Is is required in all states ?

Any info would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

A little nosing around the web makes it look as if it's a peculiarity of Gujarat, which I think is India's only 'dry' state.

Yep, only struck this in Gujurat - even then you can scuttle to Dui if in the area. Auto drivers will be able to source booze in GJ at exorbitant prices. Funny to be scamming around for alcohol this way - makes you feel like a junkie.

It's not only for dry states but where taxes are different. For instance Goa has the lowest taxes so you need one when entering neighbouring states from here.

Perfectly correct as always. Travelling from Goa to Bombay for a week and taking sufficient alcohol for personal consumption required a permit.
The Gujarat line is misleading. This does not just relate to "dry" states, but can become relevant to any movement of alcohol, no matter how small the quantity................

More than 2 bottles of alcohol per person used attract the cops during our college days! Booze in Delhi is cheaper than rest of NCR, my college was 4 kms from the Delhi border
